It's been reported that Saban was going to fire Randy Mueller. Not surprising, given some of his statements today and that word had gotten out late in the year that the two weren't exactly on the greatest terms.
Could Mueller have been the final nail that sold Saban on trading for Culpepper instead of gambling on Brees?
An interesting thing to note is that one of the guys on Sirius NFL radio (Randy Cross, I think) reported seeing Culpepper recently, and that he looked about 285 and wasn't moving all that well (granted, he had a scope). It was also reported earlier that Nick wasn't happy that Duante slacked off on his rehab at the beginning of the year.
It could well be that Nick didn't feel Duante was going to come back at 100%, and that may have added to his desire to leave knowing he'd be stuck for a few more years with questions at QB and egg on his face for trading away the 2nd for him. This, in turn, could have contributed to his dissatisfaction with Randy Mueller.
Any thoughts?
