If you take a look at the locker room celebration after the Carolina game (Dolphins' website), you'll see that Saban tells the team they "did something special today," and then he gives them a bunch of days off going into the bye week.

I'm all for rewarding great play, but that game was a nail-biter to say the least, and the defense pretty much fell apart in the 2nd half, especially in the 4th quarter. Had it not been for Schulters's INT we probably would've lost the game.

The problem with rewarding mediocre play is that it sets the team up for a bigger let-down when they don't play well, a la yesterday and in Buffalo. The resultant attitude becomes one of "crap -- and I thought we were a good team."

I think the "whew!" win against Carolina was treated more like a dominating win by the coach, which was a mistake. It gave this team a false sense of greatness, and now we're seeing the let-down emotionally.

That has nothing to do with yesterdays game. That is all clutter as Saban likes to say, and I 100% agree with him.

When I saw that video of him giving those days off I thought that was too many and we had a lot to work on at the time, but I think I heard somewhere that Dick Vermeil gave the Chiefs like an entire week off or something like that. Didn't Saban say just Friday, Saturday and Sunday off?

Another thread started by this guy that is ridiculous. You think a celebration of a big home win 3 Sundays ago had something to do with not making plays yesterday. Newsflash: that was a big win over Carolina and the players should be rewarded and have the right to feel good about themselves for their performance in that game and it had nothing to do with our WILL linebacker playing poorly yesterday or our offense leaving plays out on the field yesterday. We got freaking outplayed.

If that was truly the case, I have a feeling he'll make up for it this week. And I doubt he'll leave the penalty-punishment up to the players either.

We need more of this: :sr23: :shout: :tsk: :vader: :whip: ...

... and less of this: :drinkers:   from Saban this week!

I'm curious, how much coaching experience do you have on your resume? What level and how successful were you?

he gave Mon and Tues. off. Then work on Wed/ Thurs. Then Fri, Sat. and Sun. off. It was a bye week. I don't think that is too much time off. I thought a bye week was time off? Then again I'm not an NFL coach like most of you people.

UHH....incorrect...the Defense played great in the second half of that game....horrible in the first.....

They gave up a couple of plays in the 4th.....But they played great....

Dude...you are like 0-8 in the last couple of days...give it up already...

Thanks for the newsflash.

Didn't realize one had to be a former coach to critique things.

You all might want to consider that you've become Saban "groupies."

I think the time off was not a bad thing. Saban, on top of everything else he is doing, has the players buying into his system and believing in him and themselves. Yes, they have made some stupid mistakes and even been outplayed some, but I certainly did not expect Saban to have a perfect season this year with the team. He has done some amazing things and the victory over Carolina was awesome, even if it was close.

No...you are just making irrational observations based on a loss.

It's okay...I freak out every once and a while after a loss.

That's exactly how I felt when I watched it, and that was right after the game, not yesterday or today. I thought he was trying to extract and create too much of a "winner's" mentality out of that game. It didn't map on to how the game was played down the stretch. If I'm holding my breath until just about the final whistle, I don't want too much of a celebration in the locker room.

The celebration struck me more as something Saban thought the team NEEDED to feel good about themselves, which sends the underlying message that he thinks they aren't really all that good. Notice we haven't won since.

Actually Mike is a football coach. I think he knows a lil about coaching.
