He's going to do that in the 4th preseason game.

Every team in the NFL does this. Little to no prep for the other ones, but the second to last preseason game is usually a dry-run for how the normal week will be in the regular season.
 
makes sense to me. their preseason time is better spent on learning the new systems that they will be playing in come september.
 
I think it's more important to prepare his own players for there tasks than it is to prepare for preseason games. He is a 1st year head coach, with many 1st year coordinators, so getting players comfortable with the system the team is going to use, rather than preparing for another team seems to be the right choice.
 
I hope it works, because from what i've seen so far from Saban i cant say he's really blown me away. With some questionable calls and plays on Monday, to this not preparing in pre-season stuff, and his like press-conferences being pure hell. I would like to see a dramatic improvement in the coaching. But still he's already surpassed YOU KNOW WHO from last year
