Im from Louisiana (West Monroe, Go Rebels!) and have followed Saban since he was at Michigan State. He recruited a lot of the high school kids from WMHS and the surrounding areas. While at LSU, he was known to be a real hard a$$, but he still had his favorites as well, the players that he really liked because of their determination and leadership skills. I believe he will be looking to add several of these guys in the later rounds, guys like Nate Livings (OG), Andrew Whitworth (OT), Skylar Green (WR,KR), Joseph Addai (RB), Claude Wroten (DT), Kyle Williams (DT). All of these guys with the exception of Whitworth (obviously) and Addai will not likely be drafted on the first day. I would be surprised if Saban passes on Whitworth if given the chance to take him in the 1st round, Whitworth was a 2 time All-American and Saban had tons of praise for him while coaching him here at LSU. Saban also really liked Addai, and with the Ricky saga unfolding yet again, I could see him grabbing Addai in the 4th if he is still there, although I have seen several mocks having him going in day 1 (late round 3).
Im not sure about the value we are going to have picking at #16. Unless we can move up and take Jay Cutler, I would prefer we would either draft Huff, Greenway or Whitworth, or try to trade down and aquire a few more picks, maybe with a few extra selections we could take a chance on a kid like Drew Olson, who i've heard is also moving up on a few teams draft boards, although not with the speed as Cutler.
just my .02...

he will go in 3rd

I agree. I was surprised the original poster hinted at taking him in the 1st.

I think that Green would be a sweet pick up in the late rounds. Could be a spark in our O. I could see it happen

Only if he slips to the 7th(doubtful) or if we acquire more picks(5th or 6th). He's not polished enough at wr to warrant the need or pick earlier than 5th IMO.

Saban hasn't shown any inclination to ever move up in the draft. Trading a player for a draft pick is more likely.

Just curious, since you have followed Saban...other than Brock Berlin, what type of QB's does Saban tend to recruit?

Nate Livings (OG) 5th-6th
Andrew Whitworth (OT) 2nd -4th (most likely 3rd)
Skylar Green (WR,KR) (3rd to 5th)
Joseph Addai (RB) 2nd - 3rd
Claude Wroten (DT) 1st-3rd
Kyle Williams (DT) 2nd -3rd

You are very right, he is not very polished, so maybe he could fall to us in the 7th. We do have 3 picks in the 7th. He does need work, but Saben is high on him, maybe he will draft him and work on him. He liked him enough to recruit, so maybe he sees something in him to use. If we can get him in the 7th, Im for it

I'd rather have Marshall than Green and I agree that Andy Whitworth would not go in the 1st.

Ozzy rules!!

1st round???????

I believe he meant 1st day not 1st round

Lets hope he meant 1st day but he did say first round1

If we picked him in the first I think we would be the laughing stock
of the NFL.:sidelol:

Yes, Whitworth in 1st...

Apparently, a lot of teams have him rated higher than you may have originally thought. I would normally figure him to go in the second round, but like I stated, Saban was really enamored with this kid, he used Whitworth as his model for the other players to see what he was after in a player. So if the Qb he is looking for isnt there (Cutler), there is a chance he would take him. Remember, Peoli in New England kept a close tab on Sabans players while he was here at LSU, and he knows Whitworth was Nicks favorite guy. New England picks 5 spots after us.:cooldude:

He has only been here one year, and we were at #2 in his first year

Saban has always recruited athletic Qbs, guys who can move out of the pocket and make plays. Rohan Davey, Matt Mauck, Marcus Randle, Jamarcus Russel, all of those guys were real mobile guys. He signed Berlin more for his knack for winning games and his intelligence than physical skills. Brock may be a backup for us, but I dont think it's likely he will ever be a starter for us.
