Now this is purely speculation and my opinion but I believe it makes perfect sense seeing as thought Nick Saban is a mastermind ...

Saban knew that Minnesota really wanted to get rid of Culpepper before the start of free agency but he also knew that he was to be awarded a $6 million bonus at the end of the month. Therefore, he knew that if he could hold Minnesota off long enough from trading him last night, they would probably wait until the end of the month to either drop him or trade him before the bonus is to be awarded. My point is that I bet that the whole idea of "A deal is in place" was in fact Miami. Saban probably offered Minnesota a ridiculous deal for DC (Ex: a second rounder) but smooth talked Minnesota into keeping it secretive and also some how told them to keep an open mind to other trades. When every other team heard about this annonymous team offering a 2nd rounder, they suddenly became uninterested. Then all of a sudden when it comes time for FA to start the two sides hit a "bump" in negotiations and will now have to wait until the end of the month to come to a deal. Now, this gives Saban time to go scope out Brees and if he somehow loses him to the Saints, still has a solid shot at getting DC via trade from the Vikings. This man is a genius and deff would not put this past him. Does this sound like something Saban would pull off to anyone else?
