It just doesn't seem to me that Saban is thinking losing season this year and build for next year- or the next. Well, of course he wants to build to be stronger for future seasons. But with the moves we have made and the POSSIBLE signing of Simon, it just shows that Saban has every intention of competing for a playoff spot this year and definetly next year. He realizes the team will be carried by a strong defense and a strong running game (that will be VERY strong once Williams' suspension is over). We have potential to be a very balanced team with the recieving corp we have. We just need a QB to step it up and take charge. If that happens and our O-line is improved even 25% from last year, a wild card spot isn't out of the question. And it looks to me like Saban is thinking this is a real scenario.
I know some of you (especially Jills fans) will say I'm nuts. SO fire away. Tell me what you think one way or the other.

Optimism is a good characteristic trait not a bad one.......I'll agree on this one

I totally agree. I think the defense especially is going to be better than anyone thinks:D

All coaches want to win, yes I think he thinks he has a chance this year, but also has an eye for the future!

I know this for sure, he is not in rebuilding mode. He is making moves that look like he wants to win today and tomorrow.

He better want to win, that's one of the main reasons he is here. I'm optimistic for the season, I mean come on. After last year, how can you not be? :)

If we sign C. Simon, playoffs are a real possibility,...
Heck, even if we don't sign him.

im with ya on this one scall, i do think he wants to be there now, but, he does have a realistic veiw of things so he isnt spreading optimism around which i believe can be a good thing so it makes the players feel like they have to prove people wrong....i think its good either way

Hmmm, strong Defense, strong running game, no real QB, superbowl aspirations.....sounds familiar to me. Tampa, Baltimore, Pats....

Dont worry about Jills fans. There too busy worrying about that horrendous game they had the other night after gameplanning for it! Wanna talk about bad Olines? there ya go. Im just glad we are starting to turn the corner.

I will also add that coaching is the biggest change of all. Top to bottom. Hell, If Houck can turn Seth Mckinney around into a good Center, he should be in the Hall Of Fame.

Since when does a rookie coach declare that he is throwing his season away and play to lose?

You saw spurrier in washington right

IMO, there is just too many talented players on this team (and yes, a few has-beens)to totally write off our chances. There are some weaknesses, but what teams don't have a few weak points ?
