Saban thinking playoffs...

Hmmm, strong Defense, strong running game, no real QB, superbowl aspirations.....sounds familiar to me. Tampa, Baltimore, Pats....

The big difference between those teams and this one is the O-Line, The o-line will deyermine how far this team goes.

that and if our CBs step up, they doint have to be pro bowlers but they have to step their game up

It makes sense to add cory, he's only 28 years old compared to the older guys we have, then the very young..so catching someone in thier prime would be a nice pick. Of course Saban wants this team to over acheive, if the OL plays consistent ball, it matters not the QB, we'll be a decent team. The biggest huddle is for the OL to play avg +, and improve week to week..that will carry us far.

I seriously think you guys are a little ahead of yourselves... We haven't signed Simon yet, and even if we did, I still doubt we'd find a playoff birth in such a tough division. I am an optimist, and I feel the best we are looking at is a development like the steelers, around 6-10 or 7-9 this year, and pick up a steal at Qb next year around the 12-15 range, having him develop around vets such as ricky, chambers, mcmike, and minimizing our rookie qb's responsibilities for us to win... think Pittsburgh type development: 2 years

The way our Dline seems to be pushing back other Olines, the CBs should have a easier job this year. Not that their talent will be better, but QB's just won't have as much decision making time.

I don't see Saban as the type of guy who is looking to make his team a "playoff team"... I think he is the type that looks to make the team he has as good and consistent as it can be, to be well prepared for each game as it comes... I don't think he looks that far down the road, other than with respect to having the depth to play all the games...

I agree, he's trying to restore a winning attitude, and set up the roster to retool and be competitive simultaneously... Im seriously stoked about a Steeler type development, (2 years) going from 7-9 to a double digit win team (providing we draft a semi-successful rookie Qb next year)... hey if we exceed 7-9 this year, I think Saban is a pseudo-God and we will be Superbowl bound within 3 years...

It just doesn't seem to me that Saban is thinking losing season this year and build for next year- or the next. Well, of course he wants to build to be stronger for future seasons. But with the moves we have made and the POSSIBLE signing of Simon, it just shows that Saban has every intention of competing for a playoff spot this year and definetly next year. He realizes the team will be carried by a strong defense and a strong running game (that will be VERY strong once Williams' suspension is over). We have potential to be a very balanced team with the recieving corp we have. We just need a QB to step it up and take charge. If that happens and our O-line is improved even 25% from last year, a wild card spot isn't out of the question. And it looks to me like Saban is thinking this is a real scenario.
I know some of you (especially Jills fans) will say I'm nuts. SO fire away. Tell me what you think one way or the other.

Good shout Scall--Its hard to see where we are worse now than last year

i agree with that but you cant become to relient on one aspect, even if they step it up just a notch we'll be in good shape

Well we aren't worse at the QB position, merely status quo, which is bad enough...

With the state of FA, there is no such thing as "rebuilding" in the NFL..it's just reloading...but you're right on target, IMO..Saban didn't get to where he is by thinking of a season, any season, as a "redo"...

I will even give him the benefit of the doubt on Gus, although it goes against my thoughts...

We've looked pretty bad Pre Season. The first team offense didn't score a TD in 3 games. In the game we won, our projected starter missed wide open receivers for what should have been long gains. This year though, we've had the least injuries that I can think of in camp. So we'll be improved over last year but I don't think we'll make the playoffs.

He better want to win, that's one of the main reasons he is here. I'm optimistic for the season, I mean come on. After last year, how can you not be? :)

Exatcly.. I dont ever want the Phins to accept losing.. for anything.. not for draft picks that may or may not pan out.

Herm Edwards said it best "you play the game to win"

End of story!

I don't see any QB on the current roster doing that. The QB that takes us to the next level is NOT on this roster yet.
