Saban throws McIntosh under bus (info not from some crap football website)

Dang, those poor bus drivers better look out for Nick. He seems to be throwing everyone under busses!

They are being thrown under the Gus Bus!!!

Thats why we need A LT badly Macintosh isnt all that bad in pass protection but he does suck it big when he has to seal a corner...

It can be the right play call but if the players dont execute it everyone starts shouting at the OC.

McIntosh is our best lineman and has been superbly dominant as a run force as well as more than holding his own in pass protection. With Carey beginning to look like a first rounder on the right side with back to back strong games, it's the interior of the line that needs work.

do you blame the player, or blame the team for signing that player?

It's called accountability, and it is what Saban has always said he's bringing.

I agree and disagree at the same time

because EVERYTIME something doesn't work it's the fault of execution. Because if everything is executed to a "t" everytime it would be a big gain or a TD...right?

To me what sets a great coach apart from other coaches is that he maximizes his players talents and do everything to play to a players strength in the coaches schemes and game situations.

In other words, I agree with Saban that if Gus executes that pass play properly it should be a first down or TD. But, IMO, you have to look at what has happened in this game on how that player is playing...which happens to be Gus...in the game and in these kinds of situations during the season to make the correct call.

It's very Dave W. to say, "I didn't make a mistake, "they" didn't execute the play properly." If I'm going to try and get my QB out of a passing TD rut, it ain't gonna to be when the games on the line with 2 minutes left.

And since Saban is the HC and in charge of talent, it's his responsibilty to get the players that CAN execute plays.

I wouldn't say "more than holding his own in pass protection" man. He's still below average in pass protection for a starting left tackle.

We've had a LOT fewer 5 and 7 step drops since the Chiefs game. Saban confirmed it. They've been trying to shorten up our focus a bit so that maybe we can start converting some third downs instead of taking all these shots deep down the field that aren't connecting.

Snap stats only has McIntosh as allowing two sacks, but the average time that he is able to keep a DE locked up and out of the QB's hair is still less than your average NFL left tackle, and I would argue, less than Carey. Where Carey has come on lately is run blocking, he's becoming a slightly better quality run blocker.

If they thought McIntosh could make the easy switch over to RT without having a few weeks in training camp to do it, I have a feeling they would do that. You're supposed to have a strong run blocker at RT and a strong pass protector at LT. Right now, for various reasons, we've ended up with the opposite. I think they'll switch them this upcoming offseason (unless they replace one). Either that, or they're going to have to get a left-handed passer...

Well he's right in that particular play. It wasn't a bad call, what made the play break down was the fact that a defender was in our backfield before the ball was even handed off for the 2nd time. Protection failed completely.

That being said, our line has been improving and we are talking about a separate incident, no need to put anyones head on the chopping block.
