Nick Saban ran a system at LSU where he had 2 top notch RB's that he could rotate in and out and keep fresh so that they could eventually POUND the heck outta the other team by the 4th quarter.

Has anyone who keeps saying 'we're fine without getting a replacement for Ricky since we have Sammie' even thought about the fact that Nick really may WANT 2 number 1 RB's? Consider that Mularkey is used to a power running game coming from Pittsburgh. Consider Saban's history.

Saban wanted this Ricky-situation resolved BEFORE the draft. Ever think what the REASON for that might be?

I would NOT be shocked at all to see Saban go RB with the #16 pick (maybe D'Angelo Williams or LenDale White). Consider that Ronnie was NEVER the main man at Auburn. Neither was Caddy, and they BOTH had injury problems last year. I'd much RATHER see Saban draft a RB with one of the 7th rounders we have and have him battle it out with KJ, Sammie, and Minor so we can still draft Santonio Holmes in the 1st round.

Ricky was not just a LUXURY last year but a real, BONAFIDE weapon that would have made for a DEVASTATING duo this year, especially with CPep and maybe even Santonio Holmes added to the mix.

Some guys here think Ricky was just a good backup RB and all we need is a guy to carry 5-6 times a game to backup Ronnie.

No, Ricky was part of that 1-2 punch that Saban wants to employ full-time, just like KC, Denver, and Pitt. do.

We WILL have another #! runningback, so mark that down!

It's a good idea in college with no salary cap or anything like that to deal with. In today's NFL it isn't realistic to have two high contract RBs. Ricky was such a great value because of how low his salary was.

We are not going to waste a draft pick on a RB..Saban said he signed Sammy and Minor in case Ricky could not play this year. He also said depth at that positions is something that needs to be fixed internally, meaning what's already here..Sammy, Minor, K.J. Now, I could see us possibly picking one as UFA..

Exactly... the salary cap doesnt really allow it...

:yeahthat:

if we do go running back in the draft...its in the late rounds and we dont even need that because we have back-ups

Good Point! I would rather not have LenDale White though.

If it came down to Saban wanting another RB, maybe he would wait til the June 1st cuts, to sign one.

what salary cap issue ??

weren't we ready to sign arrington and harrington ?

plus, if we were to draft one, even in the 1st round, that will not impact the salary cap...how much money did we pay ronnie last year ?

the point about 2 # 1 rb's is valid, in our style of offense...control the clock and wear down the defense with 2 solid rb's.

Maybe you haven't read Sabans book yet, but he has that covered in his "process".

He is only going to pay so much for a player, when that player reaches a point where he feels his worth is more than the value the team places on him, Saban encourages them to move on and better themselves. This applies to assistant coaches also.

You can bet NS will not sway from his plan. If he wants two No.1 caliber backs on the team (that seems to be his philosophy) he will have them.

I whole heartedly agree with this philosophy.

NFL it isn't realistic to have two high contract RBs.

no one has two high contract running backs. nick just wants to have two starters, meaning our number two should be able to start for most teams, which ronnie and ricky could

i am not to worried about it because we signed beasley who is a good blocking back, and i see a case here where are passing is such a concern that teams forget about our running back, like with the colts. ronnie has the ability to make someone who doesn't know what hes capable of, regret not doing their homework.

i would like to see a back who can take about 25 -30 percent of the carries and ronnie can have 60 and the other ten will be used for fullbacks, chambers, and the back ups

but who?

saban knows...

Saban may want two #1 RBs, but he only needs one #1 RB.
