Saban Wants Vick To Remain on Team

Wow gotta say I'm suprised by that news. Suprised, yet pleased.
As promising as he looks at WR I know he won't help us much there for awhile.... but I like where Coach Nick is goin with this one tho...

i hope he does but not at the expence of welker

I think Welker is set at 3rd/4th. I like Welker, but I wish he was just a tad bit stronger. I think one on a passing play when he snuck around a blocker on the sideline, and it looked like he might break one but as soon as a defender grabbed him he got flung back like a rag doll. Then on that 3rd down play as soon as a defender got him bam pancaked. His toughness is unquestioned, but he just gets taken down a bit too easy. I mean there was no chance he could have fought for that first down.

Welker and Vick could both be extremely valuable players down the road, and to think neither of them were drafted.

I think Vick could possibly take that 5th spot that everyone is projecting for Gibson. And either Gibson or Aromashodu go on the PS.

However, with Mularkey on board, it's gotta be going through everyone's mine that Vick could be what Randle El is.

It's always great to have a player that provides so many weapons. He can return punts and kicks, run, catch and throw the ball. He is perfect for trick plays. I'd love it for Vick to make the team and be used in many roles.

I think Welker secured his spot by his performance on Thursday night agains Carolina. Yeah he had a bad night returning kicks, but he made some very nice catches and is a great 3rd down option out of the slot.

I think Saban's making the right choice. I'd like to keep Marcus as well. Chambers, Booker, Welker, Hagan, Vick.

Yes this is what I have been talking about. Vick is not experienced at WR like some of the other guys . . . everyone knows that . . . but he probably has more upside than any other young player (not just WR) on this team. Everybody keeps talking about the PS, man if we attempt to put Vick on the PS, I really feel he will get claimed by another team. It is not worth the risk.

Let's think about this for a second. Like I have said before, we probably only carry 5 receivers. With us having most likely a packages with 2 TE's in (Radar, McMike), and Beasley comming out the backfield along with Ronnie Brown, Sammy Morris and Travis Minor. . that is 6 pass receiving options, to go along with the top 4 receivers. IMO that is 10 options ahead of the number 5 receiver. Everybody acts as if this number 5 guy is gonna get tons of oppurtunities. That person will pretty much be a non factor at WR this upcomming year with all the other options we are carrying on this team. Gibson is intriguing because of his height and some of the seperation he has been able to get . . . but Vick will contribute much more than Gibson this year on Special Teams alone. Not to mention he will get reps in a game and teams will automatically have to focus in on him more because of what he can do. He is more dangerous than Gibson, trust me. And to have the option to be giving him reps at QB in practice . . thats just an added bonus . . were talking about a kid who could straighten up and get some serious value for . . . or a kid who could eventually be our number 2 QB in a few years . . . again "more upside than any young player on this team". Nick, u have to find a way to keep this kid on the team!!

amen to that..i think Saban will keep Vick on the 53 man roster..he has to

Nowhere do I see anywhere that says he wants to keep him on the final 53-man roster.... the quote says, "if we can keep him in this organization some kind of way." To me that sounds more like the opposite, that they are leaning towards cutting him and adding him to the practice squad.

Vick has done nothing so far to prove he is worth a spot on the final roster, and while I hear all this talk of others picking him up if cut, WHY? He hasn't shown anything on the field in preseason or practices, didn't show MUCH at Virginia Tech, and has a checkered past. That is not exactly the kind of guy teams go clamoring for.

I would like to see if he can develop into something in the future, but at this point I don't really see it happening, at least not this year. He will spend the year o the practice squad and if he can stay out of trouble and learn how to prepare and play in the NFL may have a shot at making the final roster next year.
