...when he sees evidence that the locker room is abandoning Gus Frerotte just like they abandoned AJ Feeley.

One of Saban's biggest reasons for permanently benching Feeley and raising Gus was because Gus had won the locker room, while AJ had most definitely lost it.

I'm reading Saban's discussion of the QB situation and I am thinking, he's just waiting until the team revolts against Gus. He doesn't want anyone in the locker room questioning whether or not Saban has made a move at QB because he's "packing it in"

He's got a lot of veterans in there that aren't buying this "rebuilding year" mentality at all. They want to win, and win now. I am guessing that Saban feels that making a QB change before they are ready to see one would signal to them that we're giving up on the season and packing it in for next year.

A lot of the players are not likely to see our point of view in saying that Gus gives us very little chance of winning now against decent opponents, while Sage might give us that chance. Sage is the young inexperienced guy to them, the guy who will go through some rough days while he develops, and Gus is the veteran who could lead us to more victories in 2005 than Sage. They don't want to know whether or not Sage can surprise them until they know for a fact that we're not winning with Gus in...and the Bills, Jets, and Falcons games were all close enough that those players aren't likely convinced we can't win with Gus under center.

If we lose next week against New England in embarrassing fashion, we could see just the locker room atmosphere that Saban needs to see before he makes the switch. We're already seeing signs of it, IMO. Chambers and McMichael seemed like the first to flee the AJ Feeley camp and join the Guskateers. Now they seem like the first to jump off the Gus bandwagon as well. Others will likely follow.

I would still prefer Saban take a strong hand in the matter and send a strong message that we're benching Gus Frerotte and starting Sage Rosenfels because we believe he gives us the best chance to win right now, whether Saban believes that is true or not. But, as I've said before, I think he's coaching not to lose.

From what I hear Hadnot and Chambers were livid on the sidelines when he threw that INT. At this point I don't see how they couldn't have abandoned the guy. If Saban really feels Gus is the best we have, then I will stick by that. He sees them play much more than we do and is being payed to make those decisions. Personally though I don't see how anyone could do any worse. Maybe he is waiting for Lemon to learn the offense so we can see what he has.

I Saw Rex he was going insane and was pissed big time

saban will pull gus when cleo lemon knows the offense

I don't get it. Who had the best pre-season? Sage. Who's been there 2 years waiting for his chance? Sage. Why wait until we are out of the race to give him a shot? We're only a game out of first, but this offense needs a jump-start. His name just could be Sage.

Nick Saban quote about switching QBs.

"What if that doesn't work out well?" Saban said of a switch. "What do you go back to? Where do you go next? There is a slippery slope in all of this."

That is hilarious. No freaking kidding. It would be a risk. But you are already losing with Frerotte. Miami is 3-5. They haven't beat a decent team since week 3. That was back when Frerotte was only average. Frerotte has only gotten worse since then.

If Frerotte screws up against the Pats, there better be a change. Otherise, Saban is going to start to take the blame for losing. I really, REALLY hope Miami gets back on track against the Pats. A win will tie them for first in the division. A loss will take the frustration to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL.

Then he would be starting...wouldn't he. Face it, Saban does not trust Sage to lead this team....Period.

This might be true but Saban is a first year head coach in the NFL he will make some mistakes in his approach. This. in my opinion, is one of his mistakes. If this was any other position he would have yanked Gus 2 games ago come hell or high water. Saban's accountability goes so far, it's obvious it doesn't go at the QB position. His continuing defense of Gus is pretty incredible. No other player has received this support when the weren't playing well. Maybe he doesn't like to criticize his player in public but he sure does hint a lot when other players aren't playing well. I haven't even seen that with Gus. He's blamed the O-line the Receivers the running game. Everyone!

I agree with the change in support in the locker-room, but this may also be a possibility:

A speculation about why Sage doesn't start could be that in practice he doesn't show the same grasp of the offense as Gus. It would be understandable because this is his first year with this playbook. If we went with Sage it would be a step back for the entire offense because we may have to scale back the offense. That may be the reason Saban doesn't want to change.

I think it is already happening

"
Guys may complain about it, but the same guys are dropping balls and not doing things correctly themselves, and that's what they should be focusing on," Saban said. "Every position, including the quarterback position, should be focused on what they need to do."

Sounds to me like there are already rumblings in the locker room and notice he said "guys" as in plural so this isn't just one player doing a TO.
