I am sorry nick, but the move to hire an OC that you were willing to let go on to a HC posistion was one of the biggest mistakes he had made this year.Even I knew last year when they hired him he might be gone the next year and what does saban do? LETS HIM GO! Unless saban is more genuis than i think and has secretly been waiting for Linehan to leave so he can bring in the guy he "really " wants... this was just a bad bad move .. i wasnt sold on linehan anyway .. but the one thing this team had going at the end was consistancy, and like so many years before this, here we go changing cordinators!!!! Its really a black eye on sabans first year to try to build a winner in a few years but not to have guys on board for the 3 year run!!! I love saban as a coach but he needs to make sure this doesnt happen again next year .This is not a trend i want to see on this team after all this talk about "chemistry"!!! Well it satrts at the top nickster! Time to get a guy who will stay more than a YEAR!I actually hope garret gets the job and surprises everyone.

I totally disagree. I think it's a big feather in Saban's cap that he hired Linehan and found ways to improve him into a man other teams wanted as a head coach. I don't think it's the end of the world that he left, either. Nick did it once, and he can find a qualified OC who will eventually leave the team again. That's what the great coaches do -- spawn other great coaches.

Saban couldn't stop Linehan from leaving. Linehan was free to leave on his own. Saban had nothing to do with that. I'm glad we had an OC that was good enough to get consideration from another team to be a HC. That's something you have to deal with when you have good assistants.

I dont know that he had a choice. He brought in the guy he thought could make the team succesfull, you never know what is going to happen in coaching from season to season. No way Nick saw this coming....Linehan did a good job, hope him luck in his promotion, he deserved it I think (Dont get me wrong, no way I wanted to see him go, but we have to pick up the pieces and trust in Nick, he hasnt let us down so far, and he still has an outstanding staff)

So what did you want him to do? Hire someone that he thought wasn't as good just so he would stay longer? I'm sorry, you hire the best available at every position you have open, period. If they leave, then so what, you go out and hire the best guy available again, and if you're lucky, the best guy available is already on your staff, ready to step up.

any assistant coach has the right to leave at any given time, how can you blame saban for that?

and besides, saban and Linehan actually did clash this year at one point. it was no wonder linehan left. this is SABANS team.

yea lets bring a guy in who sucks so nobody will hire him as a head coach... yep brilliant.

its moot point right now anyway. I mean come on, look around the nfl right now.

Theres guys left and right getting head coaching jobs that i've never heard of before.
Childress, the new lions coach, McCarthy.

I mean yes these guys were good coordinators, but doesn't it feel like now, if your a coordinator, eventually you are gonna be a head coach. if not, you're gonna be fired real soon.

Yeah, there's really nothing Saban could do about it, and further, it looks awfully bad to potential coaching candidates when the head coach tries to block his staff from advancing their career.

Childress

That was shocking to me until I saw your join date. Believe it or not, Childress was a favorite around here for Miami's job during the time when it wasn't clear Saban was in play. In fact, some here wanted Childress more than Saban (I'll freely admit I was one of them, though I am thrilled to have Saban and have been from the start).

hey i don't pretend to know everything. But even so, had we hired him then i would have said "who the hells this guy?"

kind of like when wanny was promoted.

This post makes no sense. You sound as if Saban can control OC's from taking another job. Anyway if he could hold his coaches back I think that would be bad business.
