Saban's Day after conference on NOW

I cant hear it now, but Saban thanked the fans yesterday after the game for the support and the loudness. He said we DEFINATELY were the 12th man out there and the noise was definatley a factor. We came thru for them..Cause they came thru for us.

report: what do you want the identy of the offense to be.

Saban : we mix it up (i shotrtened what he said. he tap danced around this a bit.)

Broncos defense put everyone in the gaps, men in the box, dared us to throw it. We used misdirection to free up some space to get it into the air, then that freed up some of the run. What he saw was the Broncos D saying you can pass on his but you will not run the ball.

reporter: are you confotable with Lance?

Saban : Lance has always been a good football player. good tackler, when you bring someone in saftey, a singnal caller postion, a QB of defnece like a Mike LB. its a little harder for a safty to pick thins up then a CB who just has to knwo the play and not call it. He (lance) got comofrtabel with the termanology and has done a good job. Reason he started is cause he did well in the last 2 exibition games.

Seems like one of the biggest hurdles for Schulters was terminology and communication, communicating to the corner on his side of the field in a way where he understands the D so that they can both do their jobs. He's gotten a lot better at that and gotten a lot more aggressive, so they put him in.

reporter: what was gus like on the sidelines when there were penalties and stuff

Saban: gus was good has good demeener, he has leadership, he demands a little accountablity when they dont do what they should do. has a good understanding of the offense and its good to know that its not always ok and its good that it doesnt always come from the coaches.

Relief syndrome is the enemy. You get an A on the mid-term so you skip 2 weeks of class get a C on the next test and end up with a B average. Does not want anyone to feel relieved by how we did.

if I had a dollar for everytime I did that, well actually I do which shows why I shouldn't of done that.

report: can you talk about when you came interested in the psychology of the player.

Saban : I never wanted to be a coach. i was playing baseball and someone asked him to be a GA i couldnt work cause my wife was 1 yr behind me so I took a calls in Sports psychology. 1st project he had to do was in perfomace and anxioty.

report: have you had a chance in the last 24 hours to think of your first win in the NFL

Saban: it mean to me what i sadi yesterday. Im happy the fans had something to get into and the way it affcted the players, happy for the players cause they worked hard to get gratification.

its just like Xmas i wanted to get get get as a kid. and now i feel better to give give give and thats how this win felt.

reporter: have you thought about the jets:

saban: we think about it we some planning in the offseason. we have respect for them and that first loss for them is no indication of how they play we need to be prapred.

reporter: how important is suprise plays?

saban: the element of suprise is ALWAYS important, but how many times can you trick them? you need to always have good execution and throw in the elemnt of suprise in there.

why did the OL play well

If i could tell you that i wouldn't play well i would be making predictions where I can be paid to know whos gonna do what.
