With the sudden news that Brees revealed yesterday that he might not be able to play for part or all of the 2006 season yesterday to the AP, naturally Culpepper seems to have the slight edge of the two. Minnesota however is playing their usual games of bluffing fake offers of Bulger and a 4th for Culpepper. Funny that Linehan was singing Bulgers praises not a week ago. Rams officials stated, "Their going to Culpepper's for lunch (a STL restaurant), but not for a QB." LOL

Let's not forget the charade that Minny pulled to swindle a 4th out of Spielman when they knew we wanted Carey.

So what does Saban do? He makes Minny an offer, and hops a jet to Alabama. Brees may not be able to play, but he and Saban can go through to motions to:
1)get New Orleans to increase their offer to Brees
2)Force Minny's hand to lower their trade demands
and 3)Worst case we lose out on both, take two teams off the QB market so we can have an easier shot at Cutler/Leinart

Hats off to Saban!

I agree....I just can't help but think that Saban favors Culpepper over Brees. Saban likes QBs with big arms, and that is not Drew Brees. Culpepper would have an easier time adjusting to the sytem, and players have fully recovered from the same injury (Willis McGahee). I would personally take either as long as Gus is s nothing more than a backup, but I truly believe that Saban wants Culpepper out of the two. I think the trip to Birmingham today serve several purposes including getting the Vikes attention and checking on Brees.

Mr. Boogieman...I could not agree more with your post....nice job and good points....if we loose out on both Brees and Culpepper then maybe one of those young guns in the draft will be avialable to us! :dolphins:

In any event, as far as personnel decisions, we are light years ahead of where we were two mere years ago. Just amazing.
