<SARCASM> Saban's just not a pro coach.

This thread was originally intended to corral all the useless negativity present on these boards yesterday. It is INTENTIONALLY over-the-top with its pessimism. Please read my future posts before flaming me.

He started by picking Gus Frerotte. Of course, Frerotte was given the job. Only a fool would now still believe there was a legitimate competition, because the preseason stats showed that despite Frerotte's supposed knowledge of the offense, he didn't do any better than Feeley.

Now, here we are after five games, and Frerotte is sporting a 54.5% completion percentage and a QB rating of 70. Neither is far off from his career figures of 54.6% and 75.8. So, it looks like we've gotten exactly what was expected. Great, a one-time Pro Bowler who never really made it in the first place. Fans here like to blame the receivers for not catching balls horribly overthrown. Me, I'll place the blame where it belongs.

Saban added one guy to a horribly suspect offensive line. That guy has been pretty bad, and probably shouldn't be playing now. He benched an otherwise-improving rookie - Vernon Carey - and started McDougle. Why? I don't know. Saban doesn't know what he's doing with the line. They can't run block anymore. Last week, they sure opened up some holes. Why not change it all up?

Ricky comes back for the first time in 20 games. Ronnie Brown looked to have just hit his stride, running for 200+ yards in his last two games. Hey, I know, let's bring Ricky right back in and start him! Ronnie can handle the breakup. Of course, it worked out well, with Williams rushing for a solid 8 yards. At least Brown managed double digits.

The guy's really just not a good coach. Because Miami dominated Denver, we thought he might be good. Then the team plays terribly for three games, and here we are.

My personal opinion: I do not like this thread. I think this is just another case of a pessimistic fan overreacting and saying things he doesn't mean. Either that or Dave Wannstedt is back posting at FinHeaven. And I apologize in advanced if accusing someone of being Dave Wannstedt is a personal attack.

Yeah, after 5 games and considering what he has to work with...no doubt a bust...Spurrier in Miami!! That is nuts!! We did go 4-12 last year you realize this right??? Give the man a chance to make the team into his own! JESUS!!

Yes. Lets just base an entire coaches ability, career, and judge what he can and cannot do in 5 games.

Duck...actually, don't because this post makes absolutley no sense. Give the man more than 5 games before you declare him a bust. The fact is that we are a much impproved team over last year's 4-12 squad. People just got their hopes too high after the first three weeks. Give it time.

I'm going to remember this thread, so in a few years when we're the SB champs and you're praising Saban, I'll expose you as a phony.

I like how you can evaulate a coach without letting him even finish a full season. Look at Marvin Lewis and the Bengals, they had horrible records for many years and LOOK AT THEM NOW!! FIVE AND WHAT?! ONE GAME LOST, EXACTLY!

THINGS DON'T HAPPEN IN ONE YEAR WHEN YOU HAVE NEW PLAYERS, NEW COORDINATORS, NEW COACHES, and when you come off a what was it? 4-12 season?!?

Give people a chance and you will be amazed at what they can do, please realize this...

Then you are pretty much alone in thinking Saban isn't an NFL caliber coach. Heck, I bet most everyone in the NFL is convinced he is NFL caliber including his players.

this thread gets 1 star.

You were probably one of the guys praising him as Saint Nick in the off season.

He picked Gus because he was left with limited choices.

Linehan, Houck, draft choices, key vetern additions, turn around a salary cap struck franchise, coach a winning attitude, change the face of the organization, get ricky back, so on and so on. He has set this franchise up to win for years to come and we should be so lucky.

Wow!!! I sure hope the Dolphins fire Saban and hire you soon. If we got all the guys you wanted and did everything your way I have no doubt we would be undefeated and everyone on this board would be breaking their arms patting you on the back. Heck no need to prove yourself..... you have my vote for coach of the year just based on the intellect displayed in your post.
