ON DAUNTE CULPEPPER
Coach Saban indicated that Daunte will do the same thing in this camp as every other player relative to the work load he is able to manage, and that they will manage that with him as they go through it. Culpepper was able to do everything in OTA days and mini-camp, of course that wasn’t in pads, but Coach Saban pointed out that they don’t hit the quarterbacks anyway, so contact is not an issue. He will dress like everyone else dresses. The team will manage him like they did during OTA days. Coach Saban said he can’t make any predictions, like he has said from the beginning, there making these evaluations on a day-to-day basis as to what Daunte’s workload is and what he is capable of doing, and as games come they’ll make those same types of determinations.

ON SIGNING THE TEAM'S REMAINING DRAFT CHOICES
Coach Saban said that it is probably all the fans, the coaches, everyone in the organization, and Wayne Huizenga’s goal to get every draft pick in camp. Obviously that is what every one is working hard to accomplish. He can’t make any predictions with any of that stuff. He just knows that they have a lot of good people in this organization working very hard to get that done. He’s sure the young players want to get that done so they have the best opportunity to compete with the team, but there’s a business aspect to this game that everyone has a tremendous amount of respect.

ON FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICK JASON ALLEN
He has been cleared to do everything in practice. Rodrique Wright is the only guy on the team that they have clearly made a decision that he will not be able to participate.

ON IF THE TEAM HAS ANY INTEREST IN OTHER PLAYERS
Anytime a player is released, the team gets the waiver wire every day, Coach Saban said there hasn’t been a whole lot of movement other than the supplemental draft, but anytime anything happens they always evaluate those situations and if they feel there is a situation out there that can help the team and it works from a business standpoint, than sometimes your interested in making those improvements. It has to work for the player, and it has to work for the team from a salary cap standpoint, and from a team chemistry standpoint on who they give opportunities to join the team.

ON IF HE FEELS THE TEAM ACCOMPLISHED ITS OFF-SEASON GOALS
Quarterback was a big issue. They made changes there. They made an addition at wide receiver and on the offensive line in the draft. In addition, some free agents joined the offensive line. Defensively, the team made some improvements or acquisitions in the secondary that they hope are going to improve the team in that regard. In other areas, Coach Saban said they weren’t as successful. He said it’s not that they didn’t try, it was a question of availability relative to what they were able to do, and they don’t have an unlimited budget. Coach Saban brought up the fact that there are people that live in an abstract world that write checks until they run out of checks, then there are other people that write checks until they don’t have any more money.

This is good stuff!!! Thanks for the updates.
