Well I think he answered everyones questions in this one. LOL. He made it very clear on his stance with the players and his view of the season. Anyone who still asks stupid questions about those things now is just plain ignorant.

Of note:

"I haven't been happy with the tackling on the perimeter of our defense for several weeks now, and we won't be a good tackling team until it improves."

He then went on to say that they obviously haven't done a good job of improving that area of play, and if the players there cannot get it right then they'll have to get some new ones who will.

" the score of the game does not matter" wtf why are we even playing
" our record does dont matter" wtf

What did he say?

He said he won't tolerate play like what happened yesterday. He said either the players here will play how he wants or they won't be here and he'll get players who can and will do it how he wants. He also said he isn't making decisions about the team based on the score of the game or our record this season. He said he's making decisions based on what will benefit us to win in the future by finding out which guys are going to play hard and be around next year. I thought he was direct and consistent with what he has said all along.

The guys at ESPN cut that to make good clips. The question was is it worth bringing Zach back at some pt this season, insinuating that the season was over. He said the decsions made in the organization will have nothing to do with score, record, etc...

It looked bad on ESPNEWS there, but it was taken out of context.

I'm glad to hear Saban is speaking out against some of our current players. It's time he found some better ones in my opinion.....

PHINZ RULE!!!

This fits with my thread here:

I cannot believe he said the score doesn't matter, and wins and losses don't matter. I know what he was trying to say--that this team is building for the future, etc. But Saban should not have made those comments the way he did. He made it sound like this is one big pre-season, which has to be disheartening for the players.

I've never seen a coach basically admit that their team is essentially tanking the season to see who will be good for the future. I like Saban as a coach as much as anyone (and in fact, I've said all along that we SHOULD tank the season to get higher draft picks because this team needs some serious rebuilding), but you can't just come out and say what Saban said.

He's trying to win these games, but he isn't going to make rash decisions doing it. He wants to find the guys that can accept his system and fit in it. Obviously he thinks this IS a rebuilding year. Of course anyone with half a wit knew that a 4-12 team getting a new coach was going to have to do some rebuilding. On the other hand many people around here had trouble figuring that out and were begging Saban to tell them so they would know. Anyone who actually knows football and watched the phins since the preseason knew this was going to be, at least to some degree, a rebuilding year.
