Found on Miamidolphins.com - they come out after games and once a week or so after practices.
These discussions are chalk full of gems about psychological aspects of the game. Saban is discussing quite regularly including in this week's discussion:
How players can drive or motivate themselves even when they are bored, tired, or do not want to do something.
How players need to learn how to focus on the immediate here and now and eliminate all previous plays and future plays from their minds.
How to stay focused and intense throughout the 60 minutes of a game.
The article posted here last week about how Antonio Gates (Chargers all-pro tight end) was going seek out Saban after the matchup against the Chargers was an illustration of Saban's wisdom and effect on people. Gates was a Michigan State under Saban and was playing basketball and football - Nick told him to focus on football and Gates got confused and ran. Now he gets it that Saban was 10 steps ahead of him. Saban saw Gates' raw talent in football and understood that he could be an NFL player when Saban first became coach.
Saban is a psychologist. The perspectives and points of views that he offers his players actually are for anyone and they are for life. He speaks about how to find an opportunity to grow and deepen no matter what the circumstances that a person might face. I imagine less immediate, but just as important Saban emphasizes the ethical aspect of life as well, that is the need to be decent, to respect your opponent, and to concern yourself with you and not the other.
The Bills and the Dolphins are teams heading in two different directions - If you look at the Bills victory over us earlier in the year - we fell behind and made mistakes - but then we climbed back into the game. A very unfortunate fumble by Ronnie Brown made the winning drive break down inside their redzone. In game 2 we fell behind with mistakes but stayed in it and fought back and this time finished in the end and sent them home losers. The next week the wheels fell off the cart for the Bills and the Dolphins went on the road and beat a potentially top level playoff team
Saban will be coach of the year next year, as right now the colts Dungy is the guy at the pinnacle.
Another year under Saban and this team is gonna be SO damn special. And then 2 years from now on my goodness. Drafts, free agency, adjustments to the system, players understanding of the system, increased confidence, and the sky is the limit.
Thanks Nick Saban for all you have done so far and what I hope and think that you will do in the future!
