made a $100 bet with a friend of mine that dolphins will go at least 10-6 this year... think its a safe bet? sad thing is hes a miami fan too and has no faith what so ever
Man, I'm a Fins fan from way back and I would never have made that bet this year...think of the "unsettled areas of the team."
1) OL...the biggest area of concern...now, I love the addition of HH and think he'll be a fantastic teacher of technique, but will the OL come together and play better...It's an area that has been weak for 5 years now. The thing I look at here is that there haven't been any major personnel changes from last year. We still don't have a LT and we still have a weak center in place...Our best OL from last year was St Clair and he may not even make the start ?? Is Big Macs injury healed well enough for him to be more productive at LT ?? Is Carey going to crack the lineup somewhere ?? Is HH enough ??
2) QB...Last year's performances speak for themselves...Yes, Ferrotte is on board, but he is a career backup, proven to be inconsistent in the starting role. He does know the offensive scheme, which is an advantage. AJ improved as the year went on, but he is going to be learing his 3rd offensive scheme in 2 years (if you really call last years offense a "scheme"). He has some tools, but has not been fully able to show them to us yet...will he ?? Or is he just another Ears ?? (WYSIWYG ??).
3) Safety...next area of concern...Jones is solid, but not spectacular. After that...your guess is as good as mine...Tillman has proven he can't be relied on. Bell is very interesting, but can he get thru a season physically ?? Bua could be interesting, but backup only this year. Everyone else, at this time, appears to be camp fodder.
4) CB...suddenly, with Poole's injury we are precariously thin at CB...starters will be fine, but who is going to be the backups/nickel/dime guys ?? Edwards, Daniels, Roundtree...none conjure up memories of PS...
5) Defense...we will be employing a different scheme than the past 8 years. Overall, I don't see us being much worse, but the play of the secondary will be crucial. Think of it, around 50% of the defensive players will not be the same or be in the same spots as previous years. Guys like Knight, Surtain, Greenwood, Timbo, Chester, Freeman/Edwards are gone. Now, we have filled mostly those spots and a last year was an aberation as far as changes go (hopefully), but this is almost half of the D and a change of scheme to boot ?? Lots of questions here....
6) Offense...while the WR and RB/FB groups are solid, we will be changing O scheme again (From NT to Collier to Foerster to Linehan)...How much of our issues last season were a result of the coaching carosel and lack of direction from the head coach...yet to be seen, but still a lot of questions...
I love the changes and anticipation that Saban has brought and is bringing...hanging a C-note on that hope is too risky for me...
