This draft is sickly deep at CB, but paper thin at S, so despite our obvious need (Brittle Bell isn't going to last the season), I'm hoping we don't take a safety in the first 4 rounds; and even then there's more good CB prospects there than safeties.
I like Zbikowski, but he's probably going to go earlier as will the top few safeties because they'll be overdrafted since there simply aren't many who can play in the NFL. I have heard that the Dolphins are giving a fair amount of attention to Caleb Campbell of Army, but I doubt they'll burn a 4th rounder on him so he may have to slide to round 6 for us to do it. In the 6th and 7th round, go for it ... but I realize that's not high praise.
Realistically, you can't draft a position, you need to draft a player, and at the position of CB your choices are phenomenal, so much so that many many talented CB's will fall deep into the draft and every team knows that, so they're less likely to pay a premium for a CB. To me, that means it's a great time to double-up on CB's. Get 2 CB's one in the 2nd round and another somewhere in the later rounds. We've got plenty of room for both of them on our roster and at worst we'll be moving Travis Daniels to safety, and he can't be any worse than Cameron "SpecialTeams" Worrel was.
We may have to wait for next year's draft to find a safety, but that's OK, because we have so many needs at the moment we cannot possibly fill them all this draft anyway. Let's just hope there's a better crop of safeties next draft.
