I have seen several posters postulate moving either Jamar Taylor or Brent Grimes to Free Safety.
We understand that the Dolphins don't use the traditional Free & Strong Safeties and that they are basically interchangeable.

It does seem intriguing that especially for someone with Grimes' ball hawking skills could possibly become an effective Free Safety at the end of his career. (His wife notwithstanding) (a la Charles Woodson or Brock Marion?)

Don't know if Jamar Taylor would even be a logical possibility for FS; but I hear he does have some good football qualities; and maybe he can be reclaimed by the new coaching staff.

Some of you experts let us know if either of these scenarios is even feasible.

The obvious move would be Jamar Taylor, but ideally I want the new Dcoordinator to give him a shot at CB again.

Grimes wants no part of the tackling required to be a safety in the NFL. He's a #2 CB at this point, a good one at that . . . just keep him off the stud #1's with size.

I think if you put taylor at safety you are gonna find out real quick he tackles like a corner...these converts rarely work out

Id give taylor one more look in josephs scheme at corner before i resorted to it

brent grimes at safety is a definite no go

I'm gonna go with option C, moving on from both of them. Jamar has never had it and I don't want the Fins keeping Grimes a year too long to fid out he doesn't have it anymore either. Use the money from both of them to sign another CB, draft one at 8, and draft a S in the 2nd and the secondary will be much improved.

Add a LG & MLB through free agency and this team should legitimately have a chance at the playoffs if Gase and his staff are what we are hoping they will be.

Can't advocate moving either to FS. Taylor might have the worst situational awareness rating on the current depth chart. He just doesn't track the ball well, and he gets used on combo routes. Grimes has the foot speed and awareness, but not the size or strength to consistently matchup with tight ends or to consistently bring down bigger players in space.

Don't completely sleep on Shamiel Gary. Anarumo gave him some extended playing time at the end of the year, and he didn't crap the bed.

Any poster that thinks soft tackling Brent Grimes should be a safety makes my head spin lol

Brent Grimes is not the guy to bail out corners jumping routes, he is the corner jumping routes. He's not meant to take on tight ends and running backs coming out of a cannon who just blew passed the front 7. he's not supposed to put in box in the red zone. So putting him at safety is just a bad idea. Likewise, for the same reason, I dont think he's a great fit for the nickel either. That could be debated depending on what you're looking for. I don't want Tight ends, running backs, fullbacks being split out on him.

I think what were looking at at this point in his career is a very athletic player but not elite speed, who probably needs safety help to do his job. I think he makes too much money to a #2 corner, but if youre replenishing this secondary through the draft, i would look at $$ spent on the unit, not the player. I cant comment on what he brings to a classroom for younger players or to the lockerroom, and if there is a lot of value in that does it outweigh the drama from his wife?

TLDR, Not a safety, needs to be #2 corner at this point, probably makes too much money, who cares though if the rest of the corners will be on rookie contracts.

Jamar Taylor has the football IQ of a ****roach and the tackling ability of an over inflated blowup doll.

Grimes is not big enough and Taylor is not smart enough!
