``Players have to play with confidence,'' Saban said. ``I told the players a story about teaching your kids to swim. They fight and scream even when you hold them, because they're afraid of the water.

``You put two little floaties on their arms, and you can go sit on the side. You can't get them out of the water because they have confidence in what they're doing. They believe in the floaties. Well, we have to have confidence in what we're doing.''

Rosenfels, a fifth-year pro and a third-stringer at the start of training camp, shrugged off speculation he might become No. 1.

``Fans is short for fanatics,'' he said. ``I love them to death. But they don't know a ton about football -- not as much as the coaches.''

We know a crappy QB when we see one. We also know Ronnie Brown needs the ball more.

Sage is obviously not up to speed with this offense. I honestly believe most of the team is trying to get up to speed with the new schemes we are employing on defense and offense.

I think in time both sides of the ball will start to perform much better with pretty much the same players that we have now.

I agree... Sage isn't familiar with the offense at all. I'm really disapointed in him... he should have been paying attention to Gus. You're supposed to over/underthrow Chambers, rather than hit him in the hands for a 77 yard TD.

So is Sage himself is saying that he isnt the best choice? Ive heard about him being perfectly content being 3rd string....but this is rediculous! :shakeno:

Tell me where in that quote Sage says that? Its a postgame interview. He isn;t going to come out and say "I'm am going to start"... or "I wanna start"..... Or "Boohoo...Start ME!!!"

When he says fans don't know football... i think I get what he means.

No ofcourse not. I didnt see the interview either. It seems hes basicly saying that the fans that want him to start dont know much about football. Couldnt he just say "Its the coaches decision and im here if the team needs me"? I dont usually try and play mind reader but this kinda jumped out to me. Again I didnt see the interview so im open to an explanation.

Sage is just being politically correct and the only ones who know who should start are the coaches.

I think he is just trying to not stray from what the coaches would want him to say. Something like I should be the number one guy would not go over to well in the locker room.

so if he says "i should start! the fans are right and the coaches have no clue what they're talking about!" do you think he'll be starting anytime soon?
