If Feeley isn't any better than Sage (and he's never shown he is), Sage should be the #2 QB on the depth chart. Feeley is 28 and Sage is 26. We also save just over 500K by cutting Feeley this year, which I think is becoming a distinct possibility.

What we SHOULD do is start the season with Frerotte at QB and see how well we do over the first 6 or 8 games. If we're out of the race then start Sage and see how he does the rest of the season. Then we'll know how badly we need a starting QB next year.

If Sage does well, we have our starting QB. If he doesn't do well enough, then we have a 26-year-old, good #2 QB who makes peanuts, and we can draft or sign a starter.

I'm in the minority here but I agree with you. If Feeley doesn't improve by the start of the season I think we should look to trade him for a 5th or 6th round pick. I believe that Sage is a capapble backup.

You wouldn't have heard me say this a few weeks ago but.....

Lets also see what Berlin can do. He is young and Raw. Saban took him for some reason. He mustr have seen or known something

Hell I believe that Sage is a capable starter. I mean he has been on the bench for the last 3 years or so might as well give him the shot to earn his pay check

Right. I think if Sage moves up to #2, Feeley is gone and Berlin is the #3. There's absolutely no reason to keep Feeley if he isn't at least #2 on the depth chart.

I can't argue with that. I wanted to see Sage play more last year. Time will tell, but AJ still has a chance to prove a lot of people wrong, but he is running out of time fast.

Definately. Although I feel AJ/Gus isn't over and it's closer than most make it out to be; I still think Berlin/Rosenfels is a nice young backup tandem. I more concerned that they both stay with the team based on what I've seen so far, but I would like to see some reps with the better offense to see if it's them or the 3rd and 4th string defense

Right -- and the other thing is that Feeley is starting to blame his poor play on situational variables (not enough reps) rather than bucking up and saying he needs to play better. That ain't gonna sit well with Saban. I mean you can only stick around on potential alone for so long -- sooner or later you gotta step up and PLAY. And with the money Feeley is set to make next year, he's gotta start playing well NOW.

:yeahthat:

They need to cut their losses and get rid of Feeley. He is just not good enough to be a #1 and Sage looks so much more comfortable, and confident in there. Berlin looks better than Feeley as well.

The ONE time in his NFL career Feeley has looked good, he was in a West Coast Offense with his whole team in the mind-set that they needed to carry him to stay alive in the playoff race. In other words, he had a highly structured offense for a QB, and he didn't have to take on a leadership role because his teammates were carrying the team.

Now contrast that with the offense he's in now and the role he has on this team. He's the leader, and he has to CREATE plays rather than having plays dictate what he does. Big difference. And we're seeing the difference on the field.

Like you, I was also disappointed in his excuses. They might be valid excuses, but by making them public he's essentially calling out his teammates. These are the people he's supposed to be leading, and I can't help but think his actions might reduce the trust his teammates have in him. As you said, it's much better for him to talk about improving his own play to the media, and then handle any other problems in the locker room and on the practice field.

I totally agree. The fact that he didn't do well with the second team leads me to believe that if he has to create the plays, he struggles. I thought that he played well in the HOF game, in which he played with the first team. With the first team, he didn't have to create as much, and could rely on other players to make plays.

I don't see AJ "Touchy" Feeley ever panning out to be a worthwhile starter in the NFL. He's got the arm, but doesn't have the pocket awareness nor the ability to not stare down his intended receiver. Because of that he's going to be a pick machine for the rest of his career.
