Might as well shovel the dirt onto Jay while he is down. In a season that will have as much to do with the growth potential of the offense than anything else, Sage Rosenfels should get the opportunity to be the back up quarterback behind AJ Feeley on this team. He brings an upside that Jay Fiedler lacks for the back up position, and I would honestly feel a lot more comfortable with Sage starting over a period of time if AJ were to get injured. This is Jay's last year in Miami as it is, so the Dolphins would be very wise to put Sage into a position where he can get his feet wet. He needs to do more during practice than run the scout team.

Jay Fiedler can either accept being the third string his talent level suggest he should be, or he can simply be released. Clint Stoerner is more than capable of replacing Jay Fiedler on this roster.

I'm not a Fiedler basher, but I'm inclined to agree with you.

With so many young and new guys on Offense I want to see what Feeley can do getting to start and if he were to go down I want to see what Sage has to offer before he hits the free agent market. I love Fiedler's heart but he's only gotten incrementally better over 4 years and there's really no upside with him in there. To be honest with you, I'm not so concerned with wins and loses with this team...I just want to see improvement...and Jay's not the guy who is going to give it to us.

This is just not something that can happen with a team still in playoff contention. Jay gives us a better chance to come in and get a win. If this team gets down to something like 4-7 or 4-8, maybe the analysis changes. None of us want that, though.

I admit Jay needs to be replaced as starter, but this year he needs to be #2. He is a smart qb that is limited physically, he can help AJ alot and can win if AJ goes down.

Typically I would agree with you.....however when he's bitching about being benched......

Letting him have a "shot" again will just reopen a new controversy, possibly distracting the team. Like I said before teh sesaon he should have been CUT period. That may sound stupid, and it was a risk but it would have done one of two things...

1. FORCED the team to pursue a viable QB option. No more long shots being brought in to "compete" with Fiedler in weighted competitions.

2. It would have taken away wanny's crutch. Mark my words, I love feeley (have defended him since i got game tapes) and think he is the answer for awhile. Franchise player with feared cannon?.....don't know about that, but an upgrade over Fiedler?....I'm certain of it.

That said he WILL struggle. It's his first year in a new system..a new system that is still in turmoil. The RB and OL are pretty new, and still gelling. While Feeley had a pre-season he was splitting time with Fiedler. not only that he lost a whole week because Jay wasnamed "the starter" of working with the first team offense.

That's the problem with having jay on the team. i don't blame jay (other than the whining from yesterday) but I DO blame Wanny. The BEST THING for the team is to cut Jay. Wanny will look for every excuse to go back to Jay, something that we CAN'T do. It's best to cut him and give our young guys a shot. If they flop, we hit FA next year looking for a vet, and draft for the future. No more being happy with mediocracy. Cut jay, don't use him as a 'backup". A backup is ok if he's just that...but with Wanny here Jay will always be the backup who thinks he's a starter.

SHOW US where he is bitching about getting benched and maybe you'll win some of us over. Being disappointed about not going back out for the second half is not "bitching" -- it's having the drive any good player should have. If Jay becomes a malcontent at the notion of being a backup, I'll be right there with people wanting something to happen. We have to give Jay a chance to accept his role, though.

In all seriousness, this would be the best thing for this team at this time. 1-Feeley 2-Sage 3-Fiedler. Good idea.

Sage and Fiedler are both in their last seasons as Phins. Jay will be released and Sage will leave via free agency. Marc Trestman believes that Sage is every bit as talented as A.J. and Jay. But as long as the current regime is in charge, Sage knows he will never get an opportunity. And he will seek greener (and more evenly stacked) pastures.

'"I'm frustrated because number one, we lost; number two, my play early on; number three, the frustration level of being pulled out of the game," Fiedler said. "We were down one touchdown. I've been in a lot of games where I've struggled early and come back and won games."

1. he admits he played poorly
2. He still slips in the comment that they were only down by 1 TD (so he play wasn't that bad right?) and that he's come back from behind before.

that's not accepting his rightful place on this team. It would be better to get him off htis team so Wanny doesn't even have him as an OPTION. He'll run back to Jay the first chance he gets.
