One day after a sickening offensive performance there are fan GM's everywhere. Hell, I am one of them. And whose head are we always calling for? The glory positions. Quarterback, wide reciever, and sometimes running back. Why is that? Because fans focus on the result, not the process. Not Saint Nick. If I had to put money down on what kept Nick Saban up lastnight, I have a feeling it would be the same thing that kept me up. The inability of the Miami Dolphins to open up holes and protect the quarterback.
Nick preaches process. Offensive line is the primary process. He knows this.
I go to school in Boston. I watch Tom Brady week in and week out. He is an excellent quarterback. But would he be so behind our line? Brady is rarely under pressure and routinely gets to view the field for three or more seconds, set his feet, and throw. Not a bad work environment huh? I can remember a few games where teams got pressure on him over the last few years. One was against Pittsburgh last regular season and the other was a Monday Night game you all might remember last year. He was not the same quarterback.
Don't get me wrong, this is not a "support Gus Frerotte" thread. He is what he is. He is a journeyman quarterback with accuracy issues.
The point is this. Miami was a leaking damn with way too many holes in it. Nick took the plugs he had at his disposal and used them the best way he could. Nick is not going to reach like the previous regime. Nick is not going to overpay like the previous regime.
How good could this offense be if the runners where given a crease instead of a wall? How good would this offense be if Gus got to stand back there like Tom does? Those are the questions that continue to irritate me almost 24 hours later.
