"Head coach Sean Payton continued meeting with potential assistant coaches during the Senior Bowl practices on Tuesday, confirming he was denied permission by the Miami Dolphins to speak to Dolphins quarterback coach Jason Garrett about joining the New Orleans staff.

Garrett spent a year in New Orleans as a scout team quarterback in 1989, and his father, Jim, was an assistant on Hank Stram's Saints coaching staff. Garrett was a quarterback with the New York Giants when Payton coached there.

Dolphins coach Nick Saban said Tuesday when asked about Garrett, "Why would I let my quarterback coach be theirs?""

Good, I hope we keep Garrett because I don't think Mularkey will be here longer than a year or 2.

Oh man...good stuff...nice info!!!!

That is 2 times now they have denied people. Looks like we know who the next offensive coordinater is in a few years lol

It sounds to me like Saban has drawn a line in the sand -- if he is told that a team wants to interview a coach for the same position he has, they're not getting permission. I think Linehan might have wrangled permission to interview Baggett if he had wanted him for OC, but the reports indicated that he was being sought in competition with Ellard for the WR coach job.

ETA: Richard Smith is the obvious exception. I don't think he would fired Smith, but it helps the team out if he finds somewhere else to go.

Yeah and if the league says he cant keep Garrett back Saban will just make Garrett Assistant HC//Head janitor/Cheerleader manager.

lol.. good stuff finfan.. It's so nice to have leadership and a head coach that knows how to run the team and organization from every angle.. It's becoming more and more apparent that Spielman and Wannstead were way out of their league..

Well, I also think that if this were Saban's 5th year, things might be different. This is just his second year here, he's still building the ship. Once he gets everything in place, he'll be able to loosen up.

If this keeps up our coaching staff will look like this:

Nick Saban Head Coach
Keith Armstrong-Assistant Head Coach / Special Teams

I just hope that Garrett is ready to take over in that time.
