Drew Brees contract has now expired. Yet, he will count $13,000,000 against the salary cap for 2018. How is that possible?
A contract with "voidable" years evades the salary cap by reducing the amount of bonus allocated to the years that are not voidable. Borrowing against the future salary cap is ludicrous. It is great for the player. It hurts other teams by allowing one team to evade the salary cap in a potential Super Bowl type season that the Saints squandered on the last play of the Vikings game. Karma.
