No doubt Ross is taking a hit financially and when he bought the team there was some concerns about his cash flow but I don't see any issue with not spending money on high priced coaches or players because he can't afford it. After all, he was willing to pay Harbaugh 7 million + to coach.Ross not allowing Ireland to spend money could have a far more charitable interpretation. It prevented Ireland and Sparano from making the kind of decisions that handicap a team in the long-term in order to save their ***** short-term. It can also have a more sinister interpretation: Ross doesn't want to spend because he doesn't have the resources to spend. The guy's net worth was made in real estate. I can think of no business in a more precarious situation now. Ross' Related Companies are one of the biggest, if not the biggest player in South Florida condo development and if anyone knows the state of Miami's condo market it's an epic disaster. Buildings that are over-leveraged and virtually empty.
I don't claim to be an expert in such things, but I don't see how he's making money on many of his real estate holdings. The debt levels on the buildings themselves, lack of tenets and rents in the commercial sector and declining values and homebuyers in the residential sector, especially the condo niche which has been the domain of flippers trying to make a quick buck for years, and I frankly don't see how Ross isn't experiencing some financial difficulties, his net worth aside, he's got to have cash flow from the team or from his outside businesses to have the resources to chase high priced players and coaches.

I agree. I don't necessarily see his inability to spend, if indeed that is the case, as something of immediate concern. Idiot owners often try to use money to paper over festering wounds. Daniel Snyder has infamously done this in Washington. More financially constrained ownerships like those in Indianapolis and San Diego for example, have done just fine over the years because they have great general managers in Bill Polian and AJ Smith. Huizenga was willing to spend and that didn't help us. But if Ross is so constrained financially that he can't spend even if he wants to spend, I think that's a real problem going forward.
We simply don't have enough information to know why he told Ireland to not spend. It could very well be because he didn't want Ireland and Sparano doing something stupid to hurt the team long-term to save their jobs now. I feared that scenario when he brought the 2 of them back. Desperate men do desperate things. Whatever Ross may be, you don't usually get to be that wealthy, especially in real estate where con men are king, if you don't have an innate sense of how to deal with people, when to hold, when to fold and when to walk away. I don't think Ross knows anything about football or even marketing, but he was obviously sharp enough to see that Sparano should have been gone last year, I'm just going to assume Ireland wasn't allowed to spend because he couldn't be trusted to spend it.
this has been my thinking on the matter as well. given the early returns on some members of this current draft class, ireland might have earned a little trust here. not sure how this will play out, but clearly sparano was finished last year, and ross, given the fact ireland was invited to attend the meeting with harbaugh, had no intention of eliminating ireland.
who knows? maybe ireland can prove there were other players on the board in previous years he would have drafted if parcells wasnt calling the shots? perhaps, and im just speculating, perhaps ireland is a quality talent evaluator and he can prove it. one thing IS clear. we cannot definitively say that he is not.
Of course he's safe, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's safe through this weeks upcoming LOSS in San Diego, through the bye week, or through the inevitable EMBARRASSMENT in the Meadowlands on national TV in a few weeks.
BECAUSE:
STEVE ROSS is CLUELESS. He's a LIAR, he's a DIRTBAG, he's a VENOMOUS SNAKE, and now that HE and his BILLIONS of DOLLARS have CONTROL of THIS team we are DOOMED for MANY years to come folks. Until this SCOUNDREL and his SLIMY old fingers relinquish the CHOKEHOLD they have on the LIFE of the FRANCHISE. That will come only in the DEATH of Steve Ross, so here is to that! DIE!
i love how the fanbase is so quick to jump to conclusions with very little information upon which to formulate their opinions. other than a couple misguided stadium promotions, please tell me what SPECIFICALLY stephen ross has done that would even HINT thats hes ANYTHING, even ONE thing that u described???
1. he wants to make games more of an experience for the fans? what a terrible idea lol
2. he wants a dynamic offense? terrible idea lmao
3. he recognized sparanos faults and tried to replace him with a winner in jim harbaugh? what a terrible idea
did i miss anything? those seem to be the 3 themes that have defined him so far as an owner
seems to me that for all the grief this guy takes he actually has a finger on the pulse of what should be happening. perhaps its some of the fans that are misguided? and not the other way around?
Early returns? You mean like Marc Columbo? Laughable. Reggie Bush? Even worse. Ireland has done nothing but show ineffectiveness since he got here, I mean the fact that Chad Henne is STILL the Quarterback of this football team exemplifies that. Anyone who wants him back without Sparano is a moron. We'd be flushing ANOTHER year down the tubes.
1. How about putting a ****ing winning football team on the field? That would make the experience nicer. To do that you MIGHT need a competent GM/Coach, and a QUARTERBACK that isn't terrible. But now, Steve Ross gets Orange Carpets and Enrique Inglesias! Woo game day experience!
2. So he keeps Tony Sparano, who historically has shown ZERO knowledge of how to get his teams into the endzone, showing massive enthusiasm for "exciting" field goals! Oh, and he keeps Jeff Ireland, who contributes to this "exciting" offense by consistently rotating **** talent in and out of it and also hires a guy who ran an even worse/less exciting offense in Cleveland to call plays that SUCK. "exciting."
3. LOL, This is a joke right? He recognized Sparano's faults, then KEPT him.
You're as stupid as he is.
This franchise has NO pulse, and if Ross has his finger on it to check it, it's because he wants to see if he's killed it enough yet.
People like to say that the owner is the problem...unfortunately you can't get rid of an owner like you can get rid of a front office. Until the Dolphins becomes a liability/becomes insolvent for Stephen Ross, he is here to say. You would think more people would know that.
We have to have faith that Ross has something up his sleeve. Carl Peterson was with him at today's game. There's rumblings going on behind the scenes. Something is going down and will begin to emerge soon.
evidently u havent been reading. perhaps ireland did not have permission to spend on the offensive line like u are suggesting he should have. and MAYBE just MAYBE that WAS THE CORRECT MOVE. this team LACKS GUIDANCE AND LEADERSHIP. what point is there to bring in an veteran in his 30s that was JUST CUT???? and expect him to be the answer??? maybe they never expected to contend. maybe the front office already knew they wouldnt under sparano. it was clear to us right???? think man.
and whats wrong with bush?? u think the guy isnt dynamic??? he think he cant play football??? perhaps hes not being used correctly??? i know thats probably difficult to understand. i mean ginn sucks too. heaven forbid we actually let him return the ball and stop worrying about what kind of receiver he is. sparanos first year after 4 returns his rookie year for tds (yes some got called back). he WASNT EVEN USED ON RETURNS. this head coach does not know how to put players in the best position to succeed. plain and simple.
but lets just ***** about the owner. and every player sucks....on and on.....give me a break dude
or maybe u have no perspective and have no understanding what it would actually take to field a winning team. Perhaps its that simple???
Is anything you say in here not a ridiculous assumption? They didn't give him permission to spend on an offensive line? They knew they wouldn't contend under Sparano so instead of simply getting rid of him (which they TRIED to do) they give him a team of players that are bad enough that they'd have to.....get rid of him? Maybe this is true, I mean Steve Ross is THAT bad of an owner, I could see it.
And as for Bush, I'm not upset about his addition to the team, but I'm upset that you turned a backfield of Ronnie Brown-Ricky Williams and Lou Polite into a backfield of Reggie Bush-Daniel Thomas-Lex Hilliard and CHARLES CLAY. That's pretty ****ing stupid, it definitely SOUNDS like Ireland/Sparano/Ross.

i agree with this
but what makes you think these people do!?
We are a losing team in this regime!
