The Miami Herald and other media organizations are reporting the Dolphins and Tom Condon, the agent for the jettisoned former Jets quarterback Chad Pennington, have discussed Pennington playing for Miami.
I would warn you that it is an initial conversation, although the sides have already talked twice today. Condon, meanwhile, is also reaching out to other teams with the Vikings being one of them also. But this has the feel of the Dolphins being very aggressive.

And so here are some things to consider:

1. Condon, the agent, is not about doing anyone a favor. Assuming there is more than one team interested in Pennington, Condon will try to get some sort of guarantees from the team, among them an open competition for the starting job if he can get it. The Dolphins would give him that opportunity.

2. Condon is going to try to milk as much money for Pennington as possible. It would be a contract that would pay Pennington upwards of $5-$6 million if he plays a certain percentage of downs. So this won't be a cheap acquisition if Pennington is the starter.

3. Pennington would be attracted to the Dolphins because it gives him two opportunities to stick it to the Jets. But he'd also be very attracted to Minnesota because the Vikes play a West Coast offense and they play indoors, which mitigate his questionable arm strength.

4. What does this all mean for Josh McCown and John Beck? Bad news. We all know that Chad Henne is the quarterback the Dolphins will look toward next season and perhaps even late this season. Short-term this was to be a team either McCown or Beck were to lead.

Seems like the agent is trying to get the Vikings interested, but I dont think the Vikings are very interested. They have Tavaris Jackson who they have supported and they signed Gus who is really good with the vertical ball. I think we are the most interested team in him and the Vikings showed what they truly think of Jackson last year by not going after Quinn. Are the Vikings more attracted? yes, but the Dolphins would give him a better chance start if not an immediate chance to be the starter.

I think Mando has the wrong team as #1 contender. The Chiefs are interested. They have Herm Edwards, Paul Hackett, and their top QB is Brodie Croyle. Much easier pickings for Pennington if you ask me. Not to mention at RB they have Larry Johnson and Jamaal Charles, at WR they have Dwayne Bowe (who was quite the beast last year) and Tony Gonzales.

KC has to be a very attractive option for Pennington.

I don't think Minnesota will sign Pennington because they don't want to undermine the confidence of Tarvaris Jackson, which is probably already shaken from the Favre flirtations. Outside of Miami, I could see New England or Indy aggressively pursuing him as a valuable insurance policy.

I think we'll get him and McCown will get the axe.

Bears are also said to be interested, but if Minnesota's dome negates Penny's arm strength, what will happen in the Windy City?

Miami's the landing spot.

Parcells and Condon are very close friends. That gives us a leg up.

I think its Miami or Minny.

Chicago has no use for him because they feel his arm can't hold up to a Chicago winter and the strong winds

Another factor could be Pennington wanting to win a Superbowl. Teams like Minnesota and Chicago probably offer him a better chance for that plus Favre is now gone in that division making it weaker.

they could persue him all they want but Chad wants to start not sit on the bench, his best option is miami , or Chicago as of right now to start

i agree with CK. Sometimes whats old is new again. As the connection between Bill and Chad resonates through these rumors, so should the Chiefs be considered a serious contender.

Us and them I would say.

Though I agree if NE decides to get involved that becomes a big factor immediately just because like it or not they are the team you go to if you want to win a championship...even if they haven't won one since 2004.

Never underestimate the competitive attitude these guys have.. Farve was dying to get traded to the Vikings to be given the chance to beat GB, and I'm sure Chad would LOVE to have it against the Jets twice a year after getting dumped.

The winds at Soldier Field would seem to be the worst-case scenario for Pennington.

I was thinking the same thing anyways Herman wanted to trade for him during the draft I thought as well. If we were to get him it wouldn't bug me anyways.

That would be perfect. Pennington goes to New England to back up Brady, and rats out Mangini for cheating! The entire NFL world would be in a state of perpetual tumult.

What's the point of getting Chad in here? What's he gonna get us that McCown/Beck wont get us? What an extra win or two?

It's seems obviouse Henne will be our Franchise QB come 2009, so why the heck would you bring Chad in unless we thought we had a chance at making a push for the play offs or wanted him as our QB for more then 2 years.

I'd rather give Beck some more experiance this year to see if he has any trade value for 09...

Agreed, but I doubt we'll get him any way. KC, Minnie, Bears all need QB's so if we did stand a chance there is probably a market out there to pay him......that = over paying a player we want for maybe a year.

It just doesn't seem to make a whole bunch of sense.

I also read that the team is talking about not keeping necessarily the best 53 guys, but the 53 that helps them in the direction they are going.
