released RB from the 49ers

Ahmed was one of two undrafted rookie running backs the 49ers signed after the 2020 draft. In three years at the University of Washington, Ahmed posted 2,016 yards and 21 touchdowns on 353 carries. He added another 331 yards through the air on 50 receptions.

doesn't read like he has much potential ... maybe a camp body?

I just read this a second ago.
My first thought was unkind- camp body.
Seems a long shot to make the team. Does he have other skills? ST?

He does... but it sounds like he didn't return many of them... 20 for a 25 yard average.

Sounds like he's slated for the practice squad after he's cut... if he shows much.

If you ain’t from the state of alabama, Georgia, California, Florida or Washington, you don’t catch the eye of Chris Grier

One of those players that needed a pre-season game or two to catch coach's eye. Likely a practice squad deep depth option at this point.

Or Texas.

But...considering five of those six states are amongst the top 10-20% in the country at producing NFL talent, I'm okay with that.
