When was the last time that somebody was witness to a successful tackle executed by Sam Madison?

I think that this bubble period would have been mighty interesting had Will Poole not injured himself, as he could be the physical corner that this defense needs.

Due to the schemes that Saban will introduce, a great cover guy is not necessarily what the Fins need. The oposing QBs should have less time and more confusion with their first reads.

This has been brought up here a million times already. There is little doubt that sam lacks the physical presence at corner. He is an average tackler at best (when he is willing), and yes the new scheme does not play to his strengths like the old one did, which is a cover guy. But seriously what is Nick suppose to do? There really are no options at this point. Next year there will be some surprise player movements becuase at that time Nick will know what he has. During this offseason all he could really do is look at film and watch guys run around in shorts. Plus he can only do so much in one offseason.

To tell you the truth the thing that upsets me the most about sam is his mental weakness and lack of control. The 15 yard unnecessary roughness penalties drive me nuts.

Funny thing is, Sam will probably not be here next year, perhaps as a 3rd corner for Bates in GB, and he gets no love because he will be obviously used "out of place" in Saban's D...That is exactly what we chastized Wanny for with Fletcher and Freeman...drafting DBs that just didn't fit in his D....

But Saban, as has been mentioned, really has his hands tied...I think he'd really like to see Daniels at FS, rather than corner...that was arguably Daniels best spot at LSU. He can't dump Madison because of salary cap...that is a given...he also can't dump him because of our lack of starting depth in the secondary as a whole and because of Poole's injury...Daniels will be a good CB for us but as a rook, he'll get picked on...If he shows some mettle and plays well, then opposing D's will turn their attention to Madison and we'll have problems then...I have thought that Madison has been in decline for 2 years now...whether that be weak knees, the rule changes, a weakness for contact or whatever...he's been in decline...this is the year he could really get exposed...

I think Madison's play is fine. We need him this year. Yes his tackling is poor, but it shouldnt hurt us too bad since we have very quick players at other positions that can get over and make the tackle. I think madison is a leader of this defense right now. Before we critisize him for not being Sabans type of player lets wait and see how he does. I think the biggest way he hurts us is with penalties and hopefully he wont commit as many this year.

Madison has me nervous. He really has not done much for us in a while. He is not the dominating CB he was back when Jimmy drafted him. I just really hope he sucks it up and plays well this year.

The difference there is Wanny drafted fletcher for the "wrong scheme" and Saban inherited Madison.

Too funny!!! You know what? No defense can totally dictate what an offense will do. There will be many times that a Wr is one on one with a Corner. So do you still think that this scheme does not require a great cover guy? Or does it matter that, with your thinking, the opponent will score on two deep passes a game? Surely you don't think that the offense will just go ahead and score three do you?

BTW, maybe you forgot to witness the box scores after last weeks game? You know, the same game that Madison led the team in tackles?

I agree Madison is a terrible tackler. However, imo he outplayed Surtain last year. Also, I know its just pre-season, but the last game I saw Surtain he was getting roasted by average receivers. Hopefully, Sam's tackling wont be too much of a liability this year. I think he can still cover.

I say next year we draft a Cornerback early. Then use Madison much the same way we used Surtain in a nice trade. Poole is a starter who will be back for us.

There's nothing else that could have been done with Madison, whether Poole was healthy or not. We would take too much of a salary cap hit to cut. We had two choices, pay him big $ to play for us, or pay him big $ to play for someone else.

he's a crap tackler, we all know this... he nudges and bumps WRs..

at the end of the day, he's got the job done over a number of years and has established a really good reputation for himself. IMO, he outplayed Surtain last year..

Thank you. I swear way too many people are drastically under-valueing Madison.
IMO he's still one of the best CBs in the league. He's certainly head and shoulders above anyone else on the Dolphins' roster. While I can agree he doesn't hit like a safety; he still does the things a good CB is supposed to do. Will he be here next year? Don't know. But neither Poole nor a draft pick next year is going to be able to step in and play at Sam's level.

he's a corner, he's not going to level a guy that weighs 40lb more than him in the flat...what does everyone expect of him? Did you guys ever watch Deon Sanders try to tackle? Sam is Ray Lewis compared to Deon!
There are only a handful of corners in the league that tackle like LB's and throw their bodies around recklessly, not something we need with so little depth at the position. He's still a top 20 CB in the league, and would be a top 10 if he had more speed (since he can't be physical anymore with the 5yd rule)

I think a more important question is "why is he being forced to make so many tackles" or "why is he leading the team in tackles"? Obviously the runners are getting outside too easily, maybe we're blitzing up the middle too much or LB's are getting off blocks.

Madison is obviously getting off his WR block or making good reads to make plays, so don't knock him so bad.

Sam Madison and tacklind do not belong in the same sentence. The best tackler on the team was traded to Kansas City.

Revised: Sam Madison

My bad gents. I should have been more specific when I mentioned Sam's bad tackling, as I am really speaking about the run-support on the corner. If I see him give one more olé, I think that I might just throw-up in my mouth. Also, I could care less if he is outweighed by receivers, or RBs for that matter. If he won't make a tackle, then at least jump on the guys shoulders until the calvary arrives.
