It looks like we are going to do the same this year that we do every year in free agency. We sign old players on the down side of their career or bargain basement stop-gap type players. The type of players who may help us to a 9-7 record but nothing more.

i really do think that Miami just doesnt wanna overpay players. they are waiting to see who gets taken, and who doesnt. if nobody offers joey porter anything...then we run in and give him less, he takes it. or like with Saban...sign mediocre players to compete...the best one wins. it didnt really work too well, but whatever. id seriously rather trade some of our older guys for draft picks....even Chambers, or Booker...whoever goes. i dont care if all we get are 6th rounders....we can find a diamond in the rough.

Well if we're not overpaying any players, why don't we have $30 million available in free agency???!!! Why is it that we have no $$$ every year?? It makes no sense. :fire:

exactly. Well wahts going to happen every year apparently for the last 2 years? PRICES are going up on FA! htuchinson cost less last year then dockery did or if not the same this year! which was the better deal? exactly!

we think they are being overpaid they prob are but the market price is going up. so what you going to do? exactly. hsould be self explanatory.

Because we spend a lot on keeping players like JT, ZT, CC. Plus we have a lot of dead cap space caused by players not currently on the roster.

I think Mueller is trying to rectify that problem but it's going to take time.

You came to this conclussion....how again? Because Miami hasn't signed anyone on the first day of F.A.? Actually the guys I've heard Miami is interested in are all pretty young. Dielman, Hamlin, Adams, Scott. You need to take a deep breathe and relax.

thats the same excuse that JIMMA used, so did WANNY, and so did SATAN...

so wasn't this "dead cap space" caused by some "overspending" in the past...

this organization is gun shy.

As some have been saying for weeks, we are not in position to spend a ton of money on any one free agent. We have tons of roster spots to fill. And we only have about $20M to do it (after we cut Harrington). We also have to be able to sign our draft picks. Just do the math. We can't be out signing guys for $7M per season. Our scouting department needs to earn their salaries, and find some mid-level guys who can blossom in Miami.

Dead cap space is caused by signing someone to a multi-year year contract and cutting him before that contract is up. Which is what we are doing with Kevin Carter, Bennie Anderson and others.

Yeah, that is the "cheap" way of going about things. I hope that this is not what is going to happen. I hope that MIA will go ahead and spend the money on both Kris Dielman (who Shefter mentioned we have "strong" intent on signing) and Joey Porter (who Shefter also mentioned we had "high" interest in signing).

We met with a no name 4th string WR. I hope he isnt the WR that Mueller is looking to replace Booker with. Or are they going to cut Vick?

This is not true. This was Mckinney and Anderson's last season. James and Carter only count minimal dead cap in 2008. This year they only have the prorated amount counting against the cap.

The team used Carter and James as the two veterans a team is allowed to cut and keep the prorated bonus money in 2007 and move the remaining amount(which is not all that much) to 2008.

I think we went about the Carter and James situation quite prudely.

Now we need to stay away from the ancient free agents and sign Dielman (who is young) and Porter who is still only 29. He and Taylor would devastate QBs and Dielman will help open the holes for Ronnie and Ricky to devastate defenses.

Y'all are nuts  We are going into a rebuilding year, now is not the time to break the bank on big money FA's. Your acting like were supposed to go to the SuperBowl next year. We don't even have a freakin Qb for cryin out loud

We have a new coach, we are cutting all the overpaid players and freeing up cap space in order to build the team he wants. Signing big money FA's at this point would be counter productive.

exactly my point...when will they get it right???

now we need to replace 7 starters off a mediocre 6-10 team....

A few draft picks and a couple of free agent bargains spells another
year of medicority, it sucks for JT & ZACH, if there going to go this
route, they should unload all the players then...

Since we finally have a true GM, and not a head coach trying to do something he's not qualified to do, I think we are headed in the right direction.

Because people like Saban and Wannstedt were poor judges of talent and overpaid for mediocre players. Remember the $30 million dollar contract for Reggie Howard?
