New York Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez struggled markedly during an Organized Team Activity session today, completing just one of nine passes with one interception during full-team drills, according to Dave Hutchinson of the Newark Star-Ledger.

Per the report, Sanchez repeatedly drew criticism from offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer for missing open targets and not reacting well to blitzes. The miscues haven’t discouraged Sanchez, though.
And inside linebacker Bart Scott delivered a few barbs: “You still have the training wheels on, Sanchez. … You’re gonna get somebody killed, Sanchez.”

I predict he will be the biggest bust. Not just based on him struggling either but as a whole.

Its his 3rd practice against the veterans, all rookie QBs struggle at first. Its the hardest position on the field, I'm actually glad he had a rough day so he can learn from it. Make the mistakes now, learn and get better.

I heard that he was impressive during the individual drills, definitely is the best QB on the team talent wise. Its all about him getting the feel for the NFL and learning the system. You really can't start judging a QB till their 3rd season.

The Jets defense has been much better than the offense in practice period from all the reports.

I think Sanchez is going to be special, that isn't me being biased either. I have thought this way ways before the Jets drafted him. Just something about him.

he should've stayed for his senior year at USC...that would've benefited him greatly...

Yep.He is just learning the offense and will have some growing pains early, especially against a defense as good as ours. Here we are about a week later and he has already started looking more mature and comfortable with his grasp of our offense, often finding second and third reads in the progression, which is something that most young QB's don't do until they have been around a couple of years.

Here is a link to an article that came out today on scout.com about the Jets and their new signal caller:

Not good news for our friendly rivals for sure......:)

It's going to take time for him just to pick up the speed of the NFL game. Things are happening very fast.

Also, do you think those linbackers and the rest of d are going to show blitz????

They want to get him ready just as much as they want to be ready.

Yes,as a matter of fact, they are blitzing the HELL out of him!Beat writers who have attended the OTA's have repeatedly written about the Jets defense being about 85-90% installed and they are blitzing our QB's in every practice.Rex Ryan said he wants to practice at game speed all the time because you play like you practice.

When the real bullets start Sanchez will probably think things have really slowed down on the field instead of the opposite because NO ONE blitzes more than a Rex Ryan defense.

He better get ready for some JT JP action :). I think he will be good, but as a phins fan im hoping he busts.

I'll say it again, you cannot take anything out of OTAs/Mini-camp whether it is good or bad. if he was doing great would that mean something? He's going to have alot of rough days in July and August, hopefully he picks things up quickly and is ready to go when they put him in there but it's way too early to worry about struggles in OTAs.

True. And I'd be more concerned with how Kellen Clemens looks since he'll be your starter.

:)

If Sanchez shows anything I think he's going to start. I would be comfortable w/ Kellen starting but they want Sanchez to win the job so it's his to lose.

If anything I'd want my rookie QB to struggle so he can learn from it and get better.

I don't think there's any doubt he'll struggle in OTAs, mini-camp, training camp, preseason and the regular season. I hope in the reg season the struggles are minimal but we have to be realistic, life is not easy on a rookie QB though he is walking into a better situation than most QBs chosen in the top 5.

he's walking into a similar situation as Joe Flacco last year IMO. as long as he can keep the mistakes to a minimum, you should be fine. that's a pretty big task for a rookie, let alone a very raw junior QB though.
