Quarterback Mark Sanchez of the New York Jets is the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week for games played on September 20-21, the NFL announced Friday.
Sanchez completed 14 of 22 passes for 163 yards and one touchdown in the Jets' 16-9 win over the AFC East rival New England Patriots.
Sanchez was selected from among five finalists through fan votes on NFL.com/rookies. The other finalists were linebacker Brian Cushing of the Houston Texans, cornerback Bruce Johnson of the New York Giants, and wide receivers Percy Harvin of the Minnesota Vikings and Johnny Knox of the Chicago Bears.
After the regular season, five players will be nominated for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year honors. Fans can vote for the winner on NFL.com/rookies throughout the month of January. The winner will be announced at a press conference at Super Bowl XLIV in South Florida.
This is Pepsi's eighth year as the official soft drink sponsor of the NFL and the fifth year that Pepsi will present the NFL Rookie of the Week and NFL Rookie of the Year awards.

I guess the kid is turning some heads.

Good for him, although he has no competition for the award. Trent Edwards also won it 2 or 3 times in a row as a rookie.

Sanchez is a better QB RIGHT NOW than Edwards. There is no comparison between the two.

Give me a break. I watched every game, Sanchez has had 3-4 dropped INT's. He has had a couple nice drives for TD's, other than that he has been a rookie.

The defense is impressive though.

^ Other than his good drives, he's had a bunch of bad drives.

Nice analysis. I could easily say other than his rookie mistakes he's been playing lights out.

He's definitely had his rookie moments but he's made plays to win each of the last 2 games. I won't agree that he's better than Trent right now but he has been very impressive for only being 3 games into his career.

lol no comparison between the two. Easy jets fans. How soon you forget omg Trent was 4-0 LAST YEAR. Just relax a lot can happen over the course of a 16 game season.
Again, the Bills were 4-0 against BAD teams. The Jets are 3-0 against GOOD teams.

Didnt Trent Edwards break the rookie completion % record vs ......The JETS!

lol.

Beating an 0-3 team is a great achievement apparently. Especially when they hand you the win with 2 turnovers in their own redzone. Houston is a crap team with a college defense. TEN gave you the game. Grats you beat the Patriots, that's about all you get.

Jetsfan0099 you are probably the most biased and inaccurate poster on this whole community regardless of what team you cheer for.

I hope Rex Ryan gave Ryan Mouton a game ball. He was the Jets MVP. As a fan, I couldn't care less how my team wins as long as they win. But the Jets went 3 and out like 10 straight times.

A long season to go and I'm still not sold on them. Tennessee is 0-3 for a reason and Houston just lost at home to a winless team. Those aren't quality wins.

LOL, the Jets provided half of those 6 losses, the Bills provided 1 of the wins. The Texans and Titans played each other so that's 1-1 either way. Shall I remind Dolphins fans of the teams they beat to go 11-5 last year? If the Jets were 0-3 the combined W-L record of their opponents would be 6-3. Could I then use the excuse that we lost to some really good teams? This is all extremely pointless, if you haven't picked up on that by now.

Wow, the damage control is in full swing. Well we've got the Saints next who are a pretty good team, though using your logic calling them a good team is questionable since they've only beaten up on Detroit, Buffalo and a McNabb-less Eagles. Those aren't exactly "quality wins", right? After that we've got Miami, Buffalo, Oakland, Jacksonville... I guess the Jets will never impress you guys at this rate...
