Jason Taylor dominates Miami Dolphins’ scrimmage

Jason Taylor continues to put to rest any concerns about whether he still has enough in the tank to be a force for the Dolphins in his 13th NFL.
Taylor, who turned 35 Sept. 1, capped a strong first week of training camp practice with a standout performance during Saturday afternoon’s scrimmage.

Lined up at strong-side linebacker Taylor had two sacks and a QB hurry in 31 plays with the first-team defense. Taylor also jacked TE Anthony Fasano on another pass-rush attempt, displaying the quickness, strength and mean streak of the player who had more sacks (104 1/2) than any this decade.

Taylor also split out into the slot in coverage one the weakside a time or two.

Time will tell the degree of Taylor’s impact, especially when Matt Roth finally returns from his groin injury. Coach Tony Sparano said he isn’t just handing the starting job to Taylor until he sees Roth in action.

This is suprising..

() On that same play, NG Paul Soliai was strangely all the way down the field as well, nearly 34 yards from the line of scrimmage. He was dropping in pass coverage, with the responsibility of following Ronnie Brown in a zone blitz. Guess dropping those 12-15 pounds was a good idea after all.

Who'd thought about a play where Solari follows a RB down the field..this regime will make this season exciting..I can't wait to see all the little widgets they've added..

dont like hearing this...

Couple of drops for TE Anthony Fasano on short balls in the right flat. He also came off limping at the end of the scrimmage.

I'm just wondering if he was using Parcells golf cart.

Very encouraging. God knows we need help in the pass rushing department.

I just don't see have different all these reports are.

Did Mike not think that maybe reporting Cobbs' big play or the fact that Wake really turned it on when scrimmage rolled around?

The Wake example more than anything is what these guys need to be reporting. Everyone is wondering if Wake's freakish athletic ability can translate when everyone is going full speed, where he would presumably use his superior athletic ability to overpower a blocker.

So why does he ignore that but report "A pressure from rookie DE Ryan Baker forced Pat White to throw one away in the red zone."

"Smith, who reminds me of Sean Taylor at times the way he looks back there, came over, leaped over both players and came down with the interception. Great ball skills by the rookie."

That's a bold comparison. Sean Taylor was the man.

South Florida reporting....

This from Sun Sentinel

Pennington went 5 for 14 for an estimated 32 yards (including a 13-yard curl to Davone Bess to start things off)

This from the Miami Herarld

Pennington was 10 of 20 without a touchdown or interception.

Good to hear Taylor's looking like the taylor we know, but this is also important..

CFL superstar Cameron Wake, a 26-year-old NFL rookie, continued his improvement in recent days, finishing with a sack and applying pressure more than once.

If we can put 3 known pass rushers on the field together on passing down, it's inviting the O to pick their poison...I can see a set where joey and taylor are on the weak side while Wake lines up on the strong side....with Joey or taylor having their hand on the ground while the other plays OLB.

Jason running over Fasano.. nice. Awesome to know that JT is still playing hard as ever

The D...is always ahead of the offense during these days...the offense will catch up in a couple weeks or less.
