Just curious was anyone as dissapointed as I was with the running game between the tackles on Sunday. I really thought this would be the biggest most noticeable upgrade on our football team this year. There was no difference. Does anyone think these guys can stoe it up and dominate some fronts or will we never be able to run it effectively without a gadget offense.

Seriously, this was the most dissapointing thing to me. I thought we'd be able to push Atlanta around up front. I wasn't even close as there D-line dominated this group.

Satele isn't even starting in Oakland so...

i just rewatched the shortcut again and the only thing we did that was anywhere near decent on offense sunday was run the ball. i think the only time we didnt get 4 yards up the middle was on the 2nd polite run when smiley whiffed and louy got blown up.

Which is why I'm still scratching my head as to why they didn't run the ball that much.

I was dissapointed also. I was hoping our oline would be dominant. Lets just hope we improve.

We had like a 4.4 average per rushing attempt. That's fine with me.

I agree wholeheartedly. This offensive line is not playing the way it's being paid to. If I'm not mistaken, Jake Long is the highest paid tackle in the NFL. Vernon Carey is a former 1st round pick and seems to play up and down. Jake Grove and Justin Smiley are former 2nd round picks and being paid quite well. The only low draft pick we have on the line is Donald Thomas. It's time these guys did a gut check. The way they've played during the preseason and the first game was unacceptable for players of their talents. These guys need to be challenged and called out for their poor play.

Other guys I'm disappointed in are the usually very dependable Chad Pennington and Anthony Fasano.

I still have every confidence that the coaching staff will make the adjustments needed to get this team playing well. This team is better than they way it played yesterday.

I agree completely. The running game is one area where I really didn't have an issue. We seemed to get good yardage just about every time we ran. We averaged 4.4 yards per carry. I was quite happy with the run game and I was surprised we went away from it...except we were just plain running out of time.

Now some people will say that we weren't "running between the tackles" and that all the big runs were outside...but I don't think that is true. I can think of at least one run by Ricky which was between Carey and Thomas where there was a hole you could drive a truck through.

If we had won the game...I think people would be singing a different tune...but right now people are so disappointed they aren't seeing things clearly. There were a number of good points to take away from the game...except the score.

The unit needs to gel. Jake Grove needs to adjust from a zone blocking scheme, Justin Smiley needs to get his legs back, and Donald Thomas...well, he needs experience period. He is our starting right guard, but he only played in one game last year. He's still a little green.

Oline wasn't good to begin with. I have no idea where anyone got the idea we had a good Oline.

Probably b/c of the insane amount that they as a group are being paid?

IF you are saying they are not good then you also must necessarily say that the coaching staff/front office is poor at player selection and paying those same players.

The salaries and players were handpicked by this regime: they chose and they chose what salaries to pay.

Simple. So if the OL sucks, the front office is DIRECTLY responsible. Kinda like a Wilford thing, et al...

Which is why some of us choose to believe/hope that this OL is elite.

Because they are sure as heck paid like it. And handpicked.
