I would love to point out how the lack of news about Samson Satele excites me. I am glad Samson Satele came out of Welker deal. The one position that has hardly been mentioned on any radio, TV or discussion board seems to be the fins center. I hope this man anchors the center of the line for years to come. Sometimes no news is good news but this guy deserves a lot of credit for walking on the path to becoming a stud in the middle. Good job Samson

He will be a pro bowler sometime in the next 2 or 3 years IMO.

I liked the pick too...I think the O-line will be one of our strengths this year, they've definitely improved alot.

No news is good news in Satele's case, IMO.

Satele is the man. Quickly became a fan when hearing the news of his work ethic last year when he had like 6 or so root canals done at one time and didn't miss a practice.

He's learning a ton from Jason Ferguson this season. Ferguson has been teaching him quite a bit and warning him that he has to deal with Kris Jenkins from NYJ and Wilfork from NE. Hopefully Satele will continue to improve.

Reminds me of Ronnie Lott's work ethic, he chose to have the end of his figure amputated instead of reconstructive surgery so he wouldn't miss the rest of the season. How many players today are old school like that!

Compared to the centers we've had in the last 10 years, Satele is great.

Here is my criticism: Sometimes Satele just stands there with nothing to do and blocks nobody.

ie... somtimes the other teams 2 DT's get picked up by our Guards... Satele won't help either of our guards... and he won't run forward and block a linebacker (ie. release from a block and advance to the second level). He just stands there and does nothing, when he could be doing something. He seems lost sometimes.

Not much of a complaint compared to our other centers who gave up sacks or got pushed backwards into the qb or rb, killing the play.

I noticed this in the Jacksonville game, and also last year.

maybe so, but i think he does that because he doesn't want to blow his assignment. his job is to protect the middle and if he stands guard in the middle it will prevent a rushing linebacker if he were to break left or right to help out the guards. If the guards are doing fine with the guys they get then it might be better that samson does stay in the middle just to ensure that the quarterback gets an extra second or two

Umm, if you have played offensive line you would know quickly that he is supposed to do that.. He is playing a zone and protecting an "area".. Dwight Stephensen did it, and other great centers do it ALL THE TIME.

If the defensive player to his left comes over he will chip him, the same for the right.. Also to a LB if he comes.. Why do you think our QB's were able to step up in the pocket so well? Because the middle was covered.

If Satele just goes over the the left or right, all of a sudden two areas open up (the two areas he is not guarding) and it leaves those two gaps open for the defense to shoot through. Satele being there negates that.

NOW this doesn't happen every play, that's why there is such a thing as "line calls" and certain blocking assignments, he does move over depending on the line call before the snap.. But if he is in the middle occupying an area, that's because that's the line call according to the defensive alignment they see.

Satele would be an ineligible linemen downfield. The rule restricts linemen from advancing beyond the line of scrimmage until the ball leaves the passer's hand, whether or not the pass crosses the line of scrimmage.

An interior lineman may cross the line of scrimmage provided that he is the last man on his side lined up ON the line of scrimmage (Flankers line up just behind the line) AND he reports to the referee as an eligible receiver.

I am sure he will always be looking for ways to improve himself as we all should. Bottom line is stud linemen are hard to find and he was a steal in the draft. We got a latter round pick that looks like he will be the anchor of a bad a$$ line for years to come. Memory's of Dallas in the 90's come to mind. If the Phin's line ends up as tough and mean, sit back and watch the show.

just gave me goose bumps thinking of the #'s Ronnie/Ricky can put up if our line becomes like the Cowboys line of the 90's...i hate Dallas but watching that machine of a team play was a thing of beauty!!

pretty good post rich .it goes 2 show u that no 1 is perfect but satele is gonna be a beast for us for yeasr 2 come and the best part is sparano is the perfect guy 2 fix sateles flaws because sparanos forte is the olines.i am just happy 2 have a young oline filled with beasts and a head coach who specializes in the oline.they are goona be a great unit for a long time

A lot of people bash the Welker deal, but it brought us Satele. Much of our offensive success in the forseeable future will be due to our anchor in the middle. So it may not have been such a bad deal after all...
