I asked a question a few months ago about Sirius Satellite radio, now my question today is what Sirius receiver should/need to buy to pick up Dolphin games, this is honestly my sole reason for purchasing the radio(tired of static during dolphins games).

I am sorry for being so uninformed with this stuff so I am counting on some experienced dolfans with the Sirius radio to help me out here, so these are my questions:

1-does it matter what receiver I buy( regular $50 receiver at a BrandsMart or does it need to be the more expensive Sportster receiver?)
2-I understand you need a "Dock" either home or car..I have even seen a Boom box type set up once more does it matter(I am going to be watching on tv and Listening on radio at home so I would think Home Dock would be best)
3-Lastly how much better is it then FM radio is there static I know you have an antenna even with the satellite radio so is this really an upgrade?

Thanks to all dolfans who post to help out a confussed fan

I don't think it matters what receiver you buy. You should still be able to get all of the channels including the dolphins games.

I don't have sirius but I've been interested in it. Here's what I've found. It doesn't matter which sirius receiver you buy, of course the more expensive the better. If you just want to listen at home, then the home dock should be fine if you already have speakers. I don't think there is static on the radio. It's an upgrade because there's no commercials and you get all the NFL games.

Your best option would probably be the home docking station. You can connect that to your surround sound (receiver). Your satelite antenna will have to be routed outside for it to get a clear signal. So remember that!

Thanks so far for the great info.....

Surtainian I live in an apt. the antenna needs to be outside!!!! ?
could you explain a bit more the best I think I could do is have it outside on a closed porch, but it wouldnt be permanett and I am not certain I would even have enough wire to run from my Home Theater SS to the porch.

If you dont mind could you explain the set up a bit more.

cefalo is so boring.

i will have to force my self to the bar to watch the games.

i can't stand his boring voice.

I'm good friends with the manager of installation at Best Buy Car Audio...and he said that they've been having ALOT of complaints about the "Sporster"...I bought the JVC and you have about 12 different stations you can tune into if one of them get's "fuzzy" or static. Now if you go under a bridge, expect it to not work for a sec or 2...same for if you go under a large tree....and occasionally if the weather is really bad....other than that, I've really enjoyed listening to all the Phins games so far...hope this helps

I REALLY hope they can get their act together....they have made MANY mistakes over the last few preseason games it's ridiculous

I have/love my satelite radio. I keep it glued to 124 (NFL 24 hours a day). I have a dock in my house and one in my car, and work truck. All I have to do is push one button and the unit comes out in my hand and I can slide it into the dock of my choice. It is as easy to change as taking my wallet, or sunglasses.

As for static, that is a non-issue. I have one of the old orbitors, which was one of the first ones that came out, and he has like 5 different stations that you can tune in to get a clear station. There is only one place I have ever traveled that has something on all 5 of those stations, and that is Norfolk/Va Beach. The stations are 88.1, 88.3, 88.5, 88.7, 88.9. If you can go out and tune in those 5 stations and if just one of them does NOT have a station already in place, then you are good to go.

I truely love my satelite. When family and friends go on trips or vacations, they always come by and try to borrow it. I MUST WARN YOU HOWEVER. THESE SATELITES CAN BECOME VERY ADDICTIVE. IF YOU GET ONE YOU WILL "NEVER" BE ABLE TO GO BACK TO REGULAR RADIO. lol I sound like a salesman, I wonder if I can get some advertising $ for this post.

don't forget...it's preseason for the sportscasters also
;)

Don't believe the BS that there aren't any commercials on satellite radio. There ARE commercials on satellite radio....lots of them. The channels that don't have commercials, are the music channels and they even have "commercials" for other channels. All the talk channels have commecials and the NFL channel has a TON of commercials, it's almost annoying that there are so many. They always seem to be on commercial break.
