Saturday Training Camp Update

Saturday Training Camp Update (and my two cents)

Tidbits I found interesting:

Immediate props necessary for Kicker Olindo Mare for booting a spectacular 64-yard field goal during Saturday’s practice. Mind you, he did it without a defensive line out for blood. But it’s always fun to see a guy put what would be a record-breaking kick….

It would be sweet if that happened in a real game.

Defensive end Matt Roth continues to take advantage of his repetitions with the first team while Jason Taylor remains out of practice. Roth’s speed off the edge allowed him to run Daunte Culpepper out of the pocket and force him to throw the ball off-balance into the ground….

Roth had another quarterback hurry, which allowed linebacker Donnie Spragan to break up a pass that was rushed…

Roth is doing a lot better in camp this year than last year. He is going to be a monster in the future.

As practice went on, you could really see how cohesive and strong the defensive line has become since it was established last year. They consistently penetrated the Dolphins’ offensive line – and I don’t necessarily feel like it was a result of any problems on the line. Instead, I think the defensive line might just be that good…

I see that our D-line is as dominant as ever.

Third team: Orrin Thompson (LT), Steve Fifita (LG), Joe Berger (C), C.J. Brooks (RG), Mike Pearson (RT).

You see, the reason why this is interesting because Steve Fifita is a Nose Tackle, and I don't he ever saw a down as a guard in college.

After practice finished, all of the quarterbacks stayed on the field with Toledo, Smith and Berger, who all worked on shotgun snaps. No big surprises, but I thought it was interesting to see Toledo getting work with the centers. It likely might have been to simply add numbers (since Seth McKinney is out)…

Toledo really intrigues me. He entered a draft as a tackle. So when he was drafted, a whole lot of people (myself included) thought that the Anthony Alabi experiment failed. However, he was moved to guard, and now getting some work at center. I'm starting to like this pick more and more.

just a typo, read the next entry..

Sheesh, it's been a long week. I'm glad you guys are on the ball...thanks for picking up two errors in the offensive line entry.

First, indeed, Carey was at right tackle and Toledo was at right guard. Like Chris said, the order was right -- just mislabeled the positions.

And Mike, you're absolutely right. Fifita is a DT. There are two guys wearing No. 60. One offense, one defense. Emmanuel Akah is the offensive lineman. Just typed the wrong name when I read it off the roster.
