I'm back in Florida BABY!
I know that Coach Saban hasn't come out and said whether he'll play Ronnie this weekend or not, but, am I the only one that thinks he should wait until our first home preseason game? First of all, the Steelers have an excellent defense and a physical defense. I'm not afraid of Ronnie getting hurt, but, there's something to be said for that. Next, he'll be in front of a hostile crowd and only have one week of practice under his belt. I just think it would be more beneficial for him to sit and watch this week, get a feel for the game from the sidelines, then come back home to another good week of practice and come onto the field for the first time in front of the Home Crowd. Think of the cheers he'll receive and how pumped he'll be with that being his first time on the field. Coach Gruden did that will Caddy in Tennessee this past week. He sent him in for one play, he was a decoy on the play, and then he came right out and sat the rest of the game. My other reasoning is that although it's never certain what someone will do as a rookie, but isn't the real battle on this team for the 3rd running back spot? We have a good feeling that Ronnie will be good and 2 preseason games should be enough for him, we know that Ricky can do, let's let Gordon, Morris, and Minor fight it out for the 3rd spot.. I would include Harris, but he seems to have little chance of making this team at this point. So should Ronnie sit this week and run onto the field for the first time in front of the home crowd, or should we put him in this week?

We pay him to play. Getting hurt, beatdown or whatever is part of the game. Get his butt out there on the field. Rookies need a good welcoming to the NFL anyway. What better way than to debut against the Steelers.

They can throw his arse in there for a play or two with the #1's and a series or so with the scrubs.

I don't buy into the fact that he needs reps. If he was a quarterback, sure, but runningbacks really don't need as many reps to get in game shape. Ladanian T. has 13 total carries for the last 3 years of preseason and he's done alright. I think a couple this week and 6-8 the following and maybe 3-5 the last game should do it.

I think he needs reps.

Wait until the regular season. Then it is time to save him. Saban should run Ricky into the ground if he is still on our team, and save Ronnie. After all Ronnie is our future and Ricky won't be around here long.

I say Ricky 15 carries, Ronnie 10-15.

Exactly, that's what i'm saying, get in for a play or so, be a decoy then get out... I don't buy this, he needs to be on the Field, someone made a perfect example of LT. He missed most of TC his rookie season and still did well.

The only way you go from NCAA speed to NFL speed is to get in there and play, not from the sidelines...

L.T. is L.T. and he plays for San Diego. We need to play our investment and get him ready.

Who's Sean Salisbury in your sig? And what's his address? :fire:

I can understand your reasoning...but I think it's a little too conservative. Practices are no comparison to game action, no matter how much the coaches try and simulate a real game. Ronnie needds as much NFL live game action as he can get to be comfortable with it. Yeah he might do well with only 2 preseason games, but remember, he won't be playing the entire game...there are other runningbacks that need work too. GET HIM IN THERE!
