Just watched a clip of Philbin's post game presser......when questioned on the ridiculous 52 yd attempt before the half: He says we talked about a few things like PUNTING!!! Guess I would rather try the field goal that has a 5% chance than punt! How about going for it Joe? Ever cross your mind?

It was a horrible call. I don't blame Sturgis either. The weather was awful, the wind was blowing, the ground was slick. It was a bad idea.

Does that surprise you. Guy has no killer instinct. I would've definitely went for it. Play action roll out. No only did we have about a 15% chance of making it! but they could've ran that back.

If Sturgis makes it no one complains. No coach makes all the correct calls, but enough correct ones were made to win the game. That is all that matters.

Prater made a 64 yarder in fifteen degree weather in Denver. Sturgis should have made it.

Sturgis wasn't going to make a kick into that end of Heinz Field in that weather. Absurd to try. Sorry, dumb decision by the coach.

On the whole though, Philbin did good today.

It was make able although unlikely. Worth a try IMO.

Kickers are 1/8 over 50 yards all time in that end of Heinz Field. The only one that was ever made was in September. Remember when that stadium was first built and their kicker, I forget the guy's name, who was otherwise OK and went on to continue to be a competent kicker with another team, kept missing kicks there? It's the way the wind swirls.

You ask a shaky kicker to try to nail that in a driving snowstorm? On 4th and 2 with just 22 seconds to play?

Sorry, awful decision.

Not going to say the clock management and fg call was right but I don't think it was horrible either. I think Philbin's mindset was to get to the locker room and avoid giving a turnover in sloppy conditions. Can't plan for saving time to get a turnover in good field position odds are against it. I wouldn't have kicked the fg though.

Come on man. 1 50 yard kick has been made going that direction in Pittsburgh. 50 yards are chip shots at Mile High. You should know better than that.

He never makes that kick. Ever. 1000 tries and he will miss them all.
