is defense.... what do you think he would have to do to get our offense going?
Say we get Ron Rivera, would you be upset, because i doubt Mike Martz, or another offensive coordinator is gonna want to come to another OC position....

No I would not be upset with Rivera or a defensive coach, as long as its not a retread or college guy.

I think to get the offense going we need to bring in a real OC and fire Meathead, and draft some playmakers starting with QB in round 1. Russell/Brohm/Smith.

I guess we can all say that continuity isn't going to happen this yr

Then hire the Bengals QB coach as OC.

Depends on who is available for OC, We have a good DC and I think if we got someone like Cam Cameron and gave Mueller all the GM duties it would do alot more for our offense because we could get a young OC or possibly promote Garrett and he could learn from Cam.

If Capers wanted to leave i'd be willing to bet Wayne could persuade him to stay and it keeps continuity on defense while allowing us to start over on Offense.

Problem with Rivera although I think he'd be a good coach what would he do for our offense? That is the real problem with this team right now.

In order to have a successful team, you need 3 quality coaches. Two of them are going to have a background on the same side of the ball. Given this reality and the fact that if we have a GM in control of personnel, we don't have to worry about bias in the team composition due to the coach, I really don't care what side of the ball the HC learned his lessons on.

Martz doesn't run very much, I rather Saunders, or the Chierfs current OC ,Solari to be the OC. Anyone who ran an offense with Huard and had success gets my vote.
There's no chance we will pry Saunders away from the 'Skins though, unless its a HC poistion.

Seems we need OC most, hoping Capers stays on as DC. So a new OC and don't care which is the new coaches specialty.

Capers won't stay on. Can you name me a precedent for it? At minimum, it is exceptionally rare for a coordinator to stay on. The new coach will want his man, and Capers won't want to work for the man who beat him out for the head coaching job.

You can't hire another teams OC without giving him a promotion over his current title.

I think Bob Bratkowski stayed as OC when Marvin Lewis was hired.

edit: yes, he was there when Lewis was hired and he stayed.

Happens all the time. Mularkey kept most of Gregg Williams D-staff. Jauron kept chunks of Mularkey's staff... its not all that unusual.

Didn't Wanny keep Bates? Or did he bring him in?

I think only a whisenhunt or Cowher would retain Capers.....

If a former DC gets the job...Capers is gone...

I could see an Offensive mind trying to keep continuity on our defense as they had some success this year.

I think you have brought up an outstanding point that I have made in other threads -- it may well be a moot point whether Capers would stay because I get this vibe that Capers could be the choice to be the next coach of the Steelers. He just seems like the right fit.
