What if we sign Alex Smith to a 3 year deal roughly 24m and then draft Tannehill at #8. Would you all be happy with a situation where Smith is the starter for a few years until Tannehill is ready to take over, kinda like the Aaron Rodgers situation? This is all hypothetical, however at this point this is my best scenario...

What do you all think of a situation such as this? Would this settle the huge falling out a lot of the people on this board are having or would many of you still be unhappy with the FO?

That's what the plan should be and I think they wanted Tannehill all along they just didn't want to show their hand. Flynn going to Seattle was huge for Miami because now they have to worry about one team taking Tannehill before us. Cleveland at 4 is a huge reach I even believe Miami can trade ba k and still draft him in the first round. We haven't seen a qb draft in the first round in over 20 years what's wrong with all the dolphins fans on this board? Were doing this right this time lol

If we sign Smith to as big a contract as the rumors say we are than there isn't really a point taking a QB in the first round. If you're gonna pay Smith to be a franchise QB than put pieces around him.

The problem is Tannehill is not worth a pick at that position. We are better off trading up and taking Blackmon than wasting the #8 pick on a project Qb. Jeez, look at Tannehills games against QUALITY opponents, the guy was a turnover machine. I have no problem taking him later but you do NOT TAKE A PROJECT QB IN THE TOP 10 OF THE DRAFT.

The report i've seen is 3 years/24 million. Sorry but that's not a big contract for a qb, and definitely not a franchise qb contract. A contract like they are offering would probably have between 10-12 million guaranteed tops and we could get out of it in a year without much damage. To me this is all pointing to them wanting a stop gap qb for a year or two because they plan to draft a qb.

There has been a huge difference in NFL contracts in the last two years.
Before the lockout and new CBA, first rounders could eat a lot of your salary cap, forcing a team to start them.
Today the CBA lowers the impact of first round contracts, allowing a talented rookie to hold a clipboard until he's ready or his team gets out of contending options. That will change the way every NFL team is picking.

Dolphins simply are the stinky guys of the NFL. Nobody wants to be related to this team, and the list of guys passing of joining this team is larger each day:
- Jim Harbaugh opted for San Francisco after owner Ross made the incorrect act of offering him to coach a team while Sparano still was coaching.
- Ryan Clark took a paycut and stayed in Pittsburgh.
- Jeff Fisher used this team to increase his value and finally signed with St Louis.
- Peyton Manning refused to interview with Dolphins until Marino begged him to hear the team. A few days later, Peyton called Miami to announce they were out of contention for his services.
- Now Matt Flynn fells this team is less promising than Seattle and goes NW.

Jeff Ireland is viewed as "Not a good guy making decisions". He insulted a potential player calling him mother a "prostitute". He has lacked of any class by cutting fan favorites like Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas and Brandon Marshall proving incapable of handling age/discipline issues.

While Redskins chose to trade up even I think they gave up too much to Rams, in a move that could allow them to build a serious franchise for the next decade. Miami can't find a way to solidify the passing game.

Miami was dreaming on Peyton Manning, who has proved he's ready to come back and his new team will be a contender. But he wasn't willing to play for this FO.

After this team passed on crucial 2011 QB prospect Ryan Mallet and now seem uncommitted to any free agent. Ireland is acting as he would like to start Matt Moore. I don't think Philbin shares the feeling. Ireland is a guy who underestimates most passers in a passing league. He hates to overpay and he's the only one able to establish the price, in his mind everybody is paying a fortune for a QB.

Mr. Ross don't know how to handle several football aspects.

Both are hurting this team.

They sign Smith, they better draft a WR in round one.

If we sign Smith or Haselback or Gerrard then we NEED a #1 reciever in the draft... OR we go with Moore and draft Tannehill

No Smith has been looking over his shoulder for years in San Fran that would be a terrible way to stay of the relationship. We sign Smith them we use the draft for wr,te,olb. Besides Tannehill is quickly reaching Blame Gabbert overrated status!

Tannehill at 8th overall would be an epic disaster.

There are sure fire studs that will be around at the 8th overall pick...

Jesus what is wrong with people, why would we spend $8 million a year on smith when we already have matt moore? alex smith is not much better than moore, we can keep moore for a year or 2 and draft tannehill, we have huge holes to fill on this team and we cant afford to go wasting $8million on a mediocre QB, use that money to fix the oline and get a passrusher, geez wake up people!
