Finheaven QB
Here are some of my thoughts. I'm at work, so I can't post them all.
This team lacks fire on either side of the ball. They lack personality. Everything is “business”. They are stoic, bored, going through the motions. There is no urgency about anything at all.
Instead of being an aggressive team, it seems to be more about trying to out-think their opponents instead of out playing them. The defense is too complicated, which also means too much thinking and not enough reacting, let alone being PRO active. Miami never seems to pick up plays before they happen or attack a particular area of weakness.
Our front four is covering for a lot of the deficiencies in our LB corp and our DBs. YES, Zach is showing age, Spragan isn’t good, and Crowder is still learning. Our defensive backs are just bad as a group. Our scheme doesn’t match our players abilities which is a coaching issue. Good coaches adapt their schemes to their player’s abilities, get the right personnel for their system, or find themselves looking for employment. Something has to get done. This team has no character, they aren’t having fun, and they are unprepared game after game. It’s very frustrating as a fan because the problems seem very obvious, just as a lot of these problems were obvious during the off season, yet little or nothing was done. Our offensive line consists of nothing but a bunch of oversized cast offs who lack any semblance of athletic ability. Too much confidence was put into one man (Houck) to be able to mold this group of scrubs into even and average offensive line. I have never seen anyone make chicken salad out of chicken ****. To make chicken salad, you have to at least start with some eggs.
Our QB situation is questionable for more than one reason. Everyone probably knows that I think Culpepper is part of the problem right now and not even close to part of the solution. His confidence is shaken. He is very hesitant and he fails to attempt to take what the defense is giving him, instead opting to take the easy, underneath stuff for fear of making a mistake. I won’t make this a bench Culpepper thread, because that’s not what it’s about. It’s not that I WANT Culpepper benched, it’s just that I want him to make plays that are there. But he is not. If he can’t do it, a decision has to be made that may give our offense a little spark and that may also light a fire under Pep, who is too comfortable with a job that he technically didn’t have to WIN. That’s all I’ll say about that.
Overall, this team just needs to be better prepared. Our o-line is not going to go out and physically BEAT anyone, so we need to scheme better to try to open some lanes, double team who we need to double team, and exploit mismatches as often as we can. We have had opportunities for big plays and we’ve left ALL of them on the field. In the NFL, you have to take advantage of every chance you get. We aren’t doing it. Our offense is averaging less than 13 points per game. That is unacceptable. Even with a bad o-line. We’ve had worse than this and done much better with a lot less talent in skill positions.
