I was checking out the opponents for the Dolphins and the Dolphins play the NFC WEST next season. They have the Dolphins home games against the NFC WEST as Rams and Seahawks and the road games as 49ers and Cardinals. If I know my NFL scheduling formula like I think I know it. Shouldn't the home games be the Cards and Rams, and the road games Seahawks and 49ers? I know the Phins lost badly four years ago at Arizona, which in turn started the WILDCAT the next week in New England. Secondly, I was at the Seahawks game at SunLife that same year! I looked on all the NFL Websites and they have the Phins at Arizona and the Seahawks here this season????

over under on primetime games for miami in 2012??? i'll say 1.5 and one of those is a lock as nfl network thursday night coverage will carry every team once...at the most i see 2 primetime games for us

I agree. They are guaranteed at least one prime time game, and I think there is a strong chance they work a MNF game in, probably early in the season.

I think they did something so that east coast teams don't have to travel to the west coast that much.

Someone called into the Denver Bronco's station asking that same question....apparently the NFL's rotation system and schedule was basically "restarted" in 2010. I believe this means that NFL teams will stay play each other team a minimum of one time every 8 years, but the NFL no longer makes it mandatory that you play the other team once in their place or in your place over that 8 year period. I think the coast to coast travel has something to do with it, but there also are numerous other things that go into scheduling.

Hmmmm thats kind of too bad... defeats one of the drivers for the scehdule redo, in that it was suppose to guarentee that great players played each other on a regular basis on home fields. i.e. specifically a case like Marino and Elway only meeting once or twice over their careers. (forgive me if the numbers are off the phins use to have a section on the site listing their record against each team but seems to be missing guess history / tradition doesnt mean much)

It's kinda of a bummer..... I was hoping Arizona would come here. I coached Larod Stephens-Howling a third down running back and a good kickoff returner for them,in high school! It would have been a great weekend to catch up with him and the game here! Oh well, that's life! Maybe in four years!

They enacted a new tweak to the formula to try and limit the amount of travel relative to other teams in the division. For example, if we had road games to Seattle and SF while the Jets had road games to St. Louis and Arizona it might give us a bit of a disadvantage. So the leveled the playing field a bit by matching up teams on western road trips so that one team isn't travelling an inordinate amount more.

That's not entirely true. It was just an adjustment in the scheduling to limit trips out West. Now that the schedule has been "rebooted" so to speak, you will still play interconference opponents every four years, once at home and then 4 years later on the road (or visa versa). Within the AFC, you would face an AFC West opponent once every 3 years unless you finish in the same position in the standings.

Are you sure about this? The way I heard the guy explain it to the Bronco's fan is they would still have to play a team once every four years, but it could be a home game two times in a row or a road game two times in a row. Hopefully it is rotated as I like to see the Dolphins come here to Colorado to play the Broncos from time to time....I've seen Miami three times at the new Mile High.

I like the fact we don't have a lot of cold weather away games this season!
