Schefter: Manning could be a free agent by next Tuesday

Really hope we don't he will ask for a lot of money that he won't be worth, he's as overrated as fisher, in the end of the day after this following season we will still be looking for that damn franchise QB
Okay, we can argue the health concerns, but saying he's overrated (if you are referring to talent and not health) is flat out ridiculous.

Edit: whoops, missed the quoted text. Sorry about that.

I thought the same thing for a second there, but I think he's talking about Flynn being overrated.

My sons I come to confirm to you all that I was indeed talking about flynn being overrated not peyton as he has earned his right in the NFL worth.

Btw I was on the denver board not so long ago and someone actually made the comparison between Dan Marino and Flynn not being so far apart, but then I almost forgot who they have Tebow starting so it made sense for them to think that way.

I don't really see how you can consider Flynn "over-rated" either...sure he's gonna want starting QB money but that's only because that would be the posistion he's playing for....he's made 2 great starts, looks like he has potential, and will more likely than not be worth any contract Philbin offers him. Hardly would consider him overrated....When I think overrated Michael Vick is more of a name that comes to my head.

Here is something that I have not heard anyone talk about...does a team sign Manning. Sign him to a deal in which if he gets his bonus once he reaches certain health and playing time benchmarks. He would be able to rehab within the team facilities and interact with teammates.

IF he does not return to form, then he can retire without the team using much if any money on him.

Honestly, this is the only thing that makes sense in my mind no matter which team were to sign him. And I don't think it would be unreasonable at all to ask of him, of course when scumbag..errr agents get involved reason and honor go right out the ****ing window....

Philbin has seen enough football and enough of Flynn to know what he has there - Ross/Ireland/Petersen will defer I am sure

Why not?

A team could easily sign him to a 1 or 2 million dollar contract, then have a 10mil bonus if he makes the roster after training camp, and another bonus after the season if plays up to snuff.

If Manning refuses then you walk away.

You think he'd accept a deal with such a low amount of money when his current contract is supposed to pay a $28 mil bonus soon?

You mean the contract that was drawn up prior to a cervical fusion that will be null and void by March 8th, if not sooner?

At a low risk I would take a gamble on him. Is he my first choice? No, Second? Not even so sure but at a 1 or 2 million a year why the heck not. We've wasted more money and time on other players, Peyton's track alone deserves him at the minimum a shot at making the roster. I think a depth chart of Peyton, Moore, Rookie and Devlin would suffice going into next year. If anything Peyton could inspire a Devlin or a Tannenhill to come out of the shadows and perform like a Matt Flynn does.

We need to grab the bull by the horns as a franchise for the first time in YEARS and sign this guy as soon as he becomes free. I understand that he still has some recovery before he is ready to go, but I'm not willing to bet against one of the greatest competetive spirits in the history of sports. We should go all in and do whatever it takes to win NEXT YEAR.

Free agency - Peyton Manning, Reggie Nelson

Draft - 1. Riley Reiff
2. Orson Charles
3. Joe Adams

This is exactly what schefter was saying on mike and mike, he said there is so much to still figure out with Mannings health, he said a team could possibly bring him in and work him out and then sign him to a small contract and put bonuses and incentives in there so that if he reaches 100% health the bonuses will kick in.
based on the gravity of his condition this would be the only way you would want him

And then we can rip Ireland and management a new one for taking the risk, if Peyton has to sit on the bench all year.

They may release him next week, but it is probably months from knowing if he plays again. Very risky to sign him now and bypass on guys like Flynn and RGIII on the hope he plays again. Here is a question though, would you sign Manning if the situation was he would not play one down in 2012, but you would get quality seasons from him starting in 2013 for a few years?
That's exactly what I was thinking. Like if he wasn't ready now but next year he was at full strength. So yeah I'll still do it. We waited this long what's another year
