Recall how much grief and controversy Thompson went through for drafting Favre's replacement then moving forward with him and not Favre? Thompson did it the right way and BB appears to have followed suit. As mentioned above, lets just see how good Polian is in the next draft.

Manning playing down from his past form is still a million times better than we've had in the last ten years. this isn't going to happen, but if it could, get him and draft a qb FIRST ROUND and we'll be competing for the next 15 years.

Who KNOWS if Peyton will ever be the same after this surgery? Sure...I would LOVE to have Peyton on this team...PRE neck troubles. Not only that, but he's turning 36 next season. Granted, he still could have tons of skill left in him, but no one knows what to expect with this injury.

Neck injuries have debilitated and ended the careers of many good to great players in ALL sports. Let's not attack someone's opinion about a player who could potentially have a serious career threatening injury.

You're forgetting what that guy in your signature did his first game back from his achilles surgery that was supposed to be 'career threatening' in 94 against the Pats. Everyone was doubting him. Dude throws for 495 yards and 5 TDs. You never second guess someone who is arguably the greatest of all time and if you have a chance to take a risk on them, you do it.

Peyton really has to watch out, Playing football after surgery on an herniation in the disc is quite a high risk move.

Basically they spread out his vertebrae along the cervical spine and inserted a plate to keep the nerve from being put under pressure (which causes the discomfort and pain.) an injury to that region could leave him severely damaged or even paralyzed if he gets slammed on his head. I doubt those disc were meant for 300 lbs linemen driving you into the ground. I would hate to be the team that is known for a great QB going down and out for the rest of his life :/
 
Yes please! Peyton showed no signs of wearing down before this injury, if he fully recovers he's still got several good yrs left in him. We won't draft high enough to get luck, barkely, or Landry anyway so keep that in mind. How great would it be for manning to break favres records in a dolphin jersey?
 
If I'm not mistaken, Marino played his final season with a pinched nerve in his neck. It wasn't talked about much until after the season, but I remember Marino making a comment that it was the most frustrating injury because it robbed him of arm strength. I have no idea if Manning will play agein or if he'll be the same but has to making the Colts very nervous. It may be why the rumors of the Colts finding Mannings relacement in the draft were swirling around.
 
This topic makes no sense. Manning has screwed the Colts $$$ wise. He signs a contract with big guaranteed up front cash then gets 3 neck surgeries,
and is out for a year or he's done period. Why would any team want damaged goods with a 2-3 year or day to day career left?
 
I think you guys are missing the point.

He's due a large sum of money and the question isn't whether he'll retire, it's whether the Colts will pay him if they think he's not the Peyton of old comming back from this.

I think that if the Colts do a decent job this season, they will ask him for a MAJOR pay cut with incentives built in should he still display the abilities.

If however the Colts crash and burn badly then they will most likely pay him since they wouldn't have much to fall back on.

....if I were to bet on it I'd say odds are likely he'll be restructured.
