Schneider there was a "strong possibility" Tannehill would be a seahawk

I dont care whether 10 teams wanted to draft him or no other team in the league wanted to draft him. Jeff Ireland, Joe Philbin, Mike Sherman, the rest of the staff...all the scouts (the guys who really know their sh** and get paid to do it professionally), evaluated tannehill as a FRANCHISE qb, with a top 10 grade, so good that they didnt even want to trade down to even the bills spot to get him. I trust the guys in this FO even jeff Ireland, and after all ive read all ive seen (the Gruden video, chris weinke video) I am super excited and all this bs about trading tannehill for tony romo is absolutly ridiculous and needs to stop.

amen!

Although it doesn't matter because he is our Qb now, I don't believe that Seattle or any team that thought that highly of Tanny wouldn't just trade up and take him ahead of us. It was no secret around the league that we were taking him.

How is it a "reach" if this many teams were considering taking him at that point in the draft?

IMHO, what they're talking about is ... the Grade which all players receive, shows the basic slot you will be drafted.

Tannehil was drafted above his Grade ... that's why they say "reach"

Here's the 'fly in the ointment' ... no one in football has proven remotely accurate at grading QBs ... so the grades are inaccurate, thus no one really knows if its a reach or not. Even Hindsight takes a good while to play out.

If you want to take a gamble, you've got to do it ... or you'll never get a QB ... as we WELL KNOW!!

GM John Schneider insists No. 15 pick Bruce Irvin was the top defensive player on the Seahawks' draft board.

Schneider listed Irvin, Bucs S Mark Barron, and Panthers LB Luke Kuechly as three "standalone guys" at the top of the list "all by themselves." Seattle was also high on Melvin Ingram, Chandler Jones, Shea McClellin, Schneider said, "but there were a lot of guys who just didn't have (Irvin's) juice." Schneider acknowledges that there was a "strong possibility" Ryan Tannehill would be a Seahawk had he fallen to No. 12 overall.

Just like there was a strong possibility Dan Marino was going to be a Pittsburgh Steeler....there are always a lot of what if's in life.

Players do not receive a particular grade. Every team grades each player independently (unless they're using BLESTO or some other service).

One team's trash is another team's treasure, and neither of them are "right." People want to make these things a "consensus" when that just doesn't exist unless you're talking about totally undraftable garbage or players like O.J. Simpson or Elway or Bo Jackson, who are clearly a cut above even the most elite of prospects.

The term "reach" only applies to each evaluator's own subjective grade and shouldn't be used beyond that context.

Only if you're any other team but us Wildbill... If we do it, it's overdrafting..if someone else would have done it, it's genious....go figure.

Buffalo was certainly in play but the pundits will say the Hawks reached on Irvin or they would reach on Tannehill as well. Regardless, Tannehill was going top 15 but and would have probably gone higher last year with the amount of teams taking QBs so early.
