Former NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer left the NFL in 2006 as the seventh-most winningest coach in NFL history. In retirement, Schottenheimer has been battling his most daunting opponent yet, Alzheimer's Disease.

The video of it is seen here: http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=20896213

I know some people enjoyed watching him coach, some felt he was over rated, a lot were baffled after he got fired from Chargers after that great season, etc.. but this, man it's hard to watch a great football mind(any mind in general) go through this.

Marty was a great coach, and from every account that I ever read, a pretty stand up guy, too. What a shame.

I'm going to be there some day.

Very sad brother. My father in law has had this for 12 years and now has a short time left with us. I always felt the Chargers ownership did Marty wrong. Prayers, thoughts, and strength to him and his wife.

I'm sorry man. I see it almost on regular basis in one form or another because of family ran business that treats with in home care and staffing for those with it. I feel like it is harder on those around the person dealing with it then it is for the actual person, just because they can see the memories fading. Just wanted to post the video/link as a reminder to everybody up in arms over how the season has gone and such that there is life outside of football and no matter how much people may feel team is awful right now, need to enjoy life and not let Miami lows become your lows.

This is sad, Marty was a hell of a coach, and I know its tough I had a grandmother who had this, and was hard to go and vist her somedays, and see how she was.

I saw part of that interview.
That was sad and rough seeing him (or anyone) go through that.

Sad to see the effects of that illness. Schottenheimer always seemed like a good guy.

One of the diseases I fear the most......a most disgusting diseases.
