The fact that Schottenheimer's Chargers are the team that knocked the Colts from the unbeaten is only fitting. Schottenheimer and Shula are close friends and in fact, it was speculatedm several years ago, that Schottenheimer would be the next coach of the Miami Dolphins once Shula retired (Shula would have handpicked his successor). Thus, it is only fitting that Schottenheimer's devised and executed on a scheme to preserve the 1972 Dolphins place in NFL history.

Especially after having lost to the dolphins the week before

Yeah, I think that loss fired 'em up for this week. It turns out they WERE looking ahead to the Colts this week. Glad to see they stepped up and kept our history alive! :D

I would have taken Marty over jj any day of the week. We would be so far aghead of where we are now it would be unbelievable. jj was a poor game-day coach with flawed strategy and tactics. He won with awesome talent ONLY, and was very mediocre when his teams did not have a clear talent edge.

With Marty as HC we would have had better talent in the long run, and would have been able to do more than just mindlessly run all day and hope we stay close enough to pop a FG at the end to squeak by in all our games.

As fashionable as it is to pound on JJ, I'll disagree.
And as much as I like Schottenheimer he is a perenial loser - ALWAYS losing when it mattered most, As with all knowledgable fans I would take JJ in a heartbeat over Shotty.

Today's victory was the perfect example of what talent combined with great coaching can do.

We landed a haymaker in San Diego. That defeat ends most teams' seasons. But when you're well-coached, you're never dead. And Schottenheimer's team proved well prepared to face "Mike Tyson" on the road.

Now image the shoe on the other foot......with Wanny at the helm. Do you think for one second that Dave Wannstedt's team would have gotten up off the canvas and beaten the champ?? We pee'd the bed in December to many times to think otherwise.

OT: Marty Schottenheimer is not the same coach he was two years ago. He gave up "Marty Ball" prior to 2004.

Well, regarless of who beat the colts, I'm happy they lost one.Now I'd like to see them win 13 again with their back up QB and playing outdoors.

Ozzy rules!!

Shula: "Shottenheimer even better friend now."

I am VERY happy for Coach Shula.
